I don't know who thought these up but I had a half dozen last weekend and I was happy happy happy! I know it sounds gross but it's wonderful! I don't drink very often and I don't like the taste of booze but this combination is really delicious! They're fun to make and drink and, believe it or not, it tastes sort of like a coke float. Go figure!
I will spare you the details - this my friend, Judy & her husband, Ed want to use this as one of the mixed drinks for their shindig - they tried it and loved it and even though it seems like a lot of work - they say it is worth it. Bon Appetit Magazine, September 2009 Edition. "The Bloody Mary, to quote cocktail guru Dale DeGroff, is like "backyard barbecue: Everyone thinks his is the best." Cooling & chilling times have already been included.
Traditionally Greek. Always good. Once baked, the baklava has to stand for 3 hours to overnight to absorb the syrup into its layers. Whereas it is most common to find baklava made entirely with walnuts here in Greece, I prefer a combination with almonds. Sometimes I'll make the baklava using pistachios, or sometimes a 1/2-1/2 mixture of pistachios and almonds. They're all great variations on a delicious theme.
Pastitsio is one of my favorite dishes, perhaps because I am half Greek! I sometimes prepare it in disposable foil pans to give away as a food gift. Cinnamon and nutmeg are traditionally used in authentic Greek pastitsio, but can be omitted if desired.
This goes down smooth as silk. My son hadn't been feeling well for a few days and didn't want to eat as his throat was very sore. It is the end of the week so my pantry was a bit bare. I put together these ingredients and it did go down very easily, sweet and smooth. I don't think we will be waiting for someone to be sick to try this out again. It is very sweet so if you don't like sweet you may want to leave out the syrup.
