    Anth's Birthday Party

My menu for 26 Feb - my BF's birthday. Instead of a gift, he wanted birthday dinner instead.

I made this for my BF's birthday.. he loved it.. so did all my guests! I served this with angel hair pasta. It can be made ahead, then reheated on low heat. Or you can let the stew cook on low heat for 4 hours. (the cooking time is just an estimation, the longer you simmer it, the more tender the meat will be)

A Chocoholic's delight! This cake is a bit time consuming to make, but worth the trouble! On the plus side, it can be made in stages, and assembled the day of serving. Prep time includes chilling time.

Stuff this under the skin of a chicken with extra garlic, use it for garlic bread, a small disc in the center of a hamburger, or use as a "condiment" for fish and seafood. Adapted from "How to Grill" by Raichlen. You've got to check that book out.

Living in Japan I discovered this nice Japanese Cheesecake. Myself, I think it's really delicious.

There's nothing as wonderful as a freshly baked focaccia. Adapted from "Bread" by Treuille and Ferrigno. i even love this plain, without any filling. You can use anything for the filling; iI've included another variation. Generally, any Italian-style ingredients such as roasted peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, capers, fresh herbs (esp basil/oregano) or grilled aubergines, will complement this bread. Just remember that any topping/filling must be cooked in the same time that it takes the bread to bake. Therefore, vegetables need to be chopped/sliced, and partially cooked (roasting/parboiling before they are used. Prep time includes dough rising/proving.

From Australian Women's Weekly. Serve this with cheese and bacon toasts. Yummy! Soup can be made a few days ahead and frozen. Reheat in microwave. To make the soup even yummier, I would suggest that you fry 1 slice of bacon and chop it up. Then using the reserved bacon grease, saute the onions, garlic and chopped bacon as stated.

Taken from Julia Child's The Way to Cook. I think it would be delicious as a sandwich filling too.
