Thanks to Peacefulnightdove for renaming this recipe. The real name Monkey Gland Steak - a Sweet Marinade Sauce But trust me No monkey here! African recipe posted for tour 2005. I used a mango chutney with Raisins and Red Chilies. Bought a rump roast that I sliced across the grain into steaks.

These are dumplings for potjiekos (or stews). Time does not include two hour rise times. For most potjie dishes you can start this when you start the stew and it will be ready by the time the stew is almost done.

A Potjie is a South African Stew type meal cooked in a large three legged pot over coals. It is often cooked as port of a social gathering in much the same way as BBQs are. These are awesome to have while camping too.

This hearty stew that originated in areas of South and East Africa. Potatoes, both sweet and white, as well as cauliflower, calcium-rich greens, raisins, and spices make a savory and nourishing meal to warm us on cold winter nights. Serve topped with rice, couscous, or quinoa.

Toasting the spices in a skillet brings out their sweet and hot flavors. I made this using 8 cup of carrots and cauliflower combined and just double the dressing. My spices are very fresh and intense so I was able to use less then called for. Adjust to taste and freshness of spices. Th

This soft, spongy flat bread is used instead of utensils to scoop up a stew or vegetables. It is traditionally made with teff flour, a type of millet grown in Ethiopia. If you can't find teff you can substitute buckwheat or wheat flour, as this recipe does. The batter is usually treated as sourdough - a small portion saved from each recipe and allowed to ferment, then added to the new batter next time injera is made. This recipe uses baking soda and club soda to produce the same bubbly effect.
