    Recipe #143750

This is a heavenly, quick, delicious soup! I got this from a church dinner we had. The Pastor's wife hates to cook, and this is her favorite quick take...one taste and it is mine now too! Great for socials.

I was looking at the community forums when I read the question - favorite comfort foods. This is my favorite comfort food - so I thought I'd better include the recipe for you all to try. I actually found it at vegparadise.com but I've altered the ingredients a bit so it's easier to make and to my liking. We eat this at least once a week as a main course.

To make slicing the pork chop easier, freeze it for 15 minutes. We prefer the distinctive flavor of Chinese black vinegar; look for it in Asian supermarkets. If you can't find it, a combination of red wine vinegar and balsamic vinegar approximates its flavor. This soup is very spicy. For a less spicy soup, omit the chili oil altogether or add only 1 teaspoon. Recipe stolen from the PBS cooking program America's Test Kitchen. This is an excellent soup.

It’s amazing when two ingredients intertwine so perfectly, that regardless of how hard the palate may try, it can’t coax them apart. That’s what happens to the applesauce and pumpkin purée in this sweet and savory soup. The pumpkin gives substance to the apple; the apple makes the pumpkin sweet and tangy. Eaten together, they become a totally new taste sensation -- and a great way to fit fruit and veggies in! Courtesy of Mealtime.org

I love rutabaga. When I was a child it was one of my favorite parts of Christmas dinner, that golden pile of mashed rutabaga...This soup looks and tastes like liquid autumn. It's incredibly simple to put together and can be made well in advance and frozen. the elusive ingredient is a bit of maple syrup which enhances the natural sweetness of the rutabaga. Water or vegetable stock may be successfully substituted for the chicken stock if you want to make this soup vegetarian.

I didn't want leeks, potatoes or other stuff in the soup. So here is a simple version.

This is different. It is and intriguing African recipe. I like it!

    Recipe #452354

When I make this I do not pass it through a sieve or cheesecloth. Instead I use a stick blender to puree it. The result is a very thick "soup" that really could be used to replace mashed potatoes as a side dish. Another one found in my great banana recipe search.
