I love chocolate! That being said, I have never cared for chocolate cake or ice cream. Go figure. But just because I don't care for it doesn't mean that my family gave it up. Who knows? Maybe one of these will convert me. Photo by cipherbabe.
We found this recipe in a magazine at a doctors office where my wife discovered she was pregnant with our oldest daughter over 19 years ago.It has become our favorite cake.
The title fits,it always disapears to quick.
After much deliberation on the discussion boards it was decided that certain chocolate cakes were better than sex, but nothing is better than George Clooney, except for this cake! Prep time includes chilling.
I am posting this for safekeeping as it is our family's favorite cake recipe. It is very similar to a few others here on Zaar but IMO it's the best! :) The mini chips don't sink to the bottom, but regular chips will do just as well.
I prefer to bake this as cupcakes as opposed to a bundt cake. Fantastic with vanilla buttercream frosting or just a dusting of powdered sugar.
Edited to add:
Thanks, Yooper and Ronnie for remiding me where I found this! I used to copy recipes from online onto index cards for my recipe box (before I found Zaar). So much for my "safekeeping" theory. lol
Another recipe from "To Set Before a Queen", by a former cook for Princess Elizabeth (before she was crowned queen). She says that this was her most popular cake with the royal family, and that she sent it by request to Windsor, Balmoral, and Sandringham, as well as making it for the Queen Mother for her birthday at her request. I made it for my MIL for her birthday one year--it was delicious. The marmalade adds a nice touch to the cake, and the coffee icing is perfect with the rich cake. Times are estimated and don't include time to cool.
I actually found this recipe in a book entitled "The I Don't Know How to Cook Cookbook" and it is very tasty. The cupcakes turn out moist and delicious! They are very easy to make, and contain no eggs or milk. Pair with your favorite icing.
However, Buttermilk or milk may be substituted for water and melted butter may be substituted for the oil.
I had this at my parents house today. My Daddy made it and we all loved it. If you love peanut butter and chocolate, You WILL love this!!! Great for Church socials and other gatherings. ***Note*** Wherever you see "(*optional)", that is where my Daddy added that little something extra into the original recipe. I hope you try it and like it!
A Chocoholic's delight! This cake is a bit time consuming to make, but worth the trouble! On the plus side, it can be made in stages, and assembled the day of serving. Prep time includes chilling time.
One night I was craving chocolate cake, but we didn't have a mix and I didn't feel like going to the store. I looked on the back of a box of Hershey's Cocoa and found this recipe. It is just a basic chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, but it is DIVINE. My husband and I both LOVE it and think it is the best cake ever. I will never make chocolate cake from a box again.
Oh Yeah! Now I can make my own cake mixes just like the big boys! This would make a nice gift, along with a cake pan, large mixing spoon, some cocoa, maybe a pot holder, etc. Enjoy! Chocolate cake is popular all over the USA! New England, Southern, Mid West, Mid Atlantic, West and Southwest.
