I used to buy the spice packets, but have now found Gluhwein at my local liquor store already bottled!!!! And it's been running less than $5 per!!

Thanks for looking Steve If you like gluhwein, you might try clicking on Glogg...I bet you'd like it.
You may also appreciate Quentão, Brazilian Mulled Wine.

The first time we had Glogg it included pure grain alcohol: true knock-you-on-your-butt stuff!

There are several types of Glühwein too - some with Heidelbeeren, Kirsch, etc. Hope you find the one you like...right now, the Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market) downtown, has huge casks of Glühwein

Had my first Glogg two yrs ago at the Kindermart in Denver.. now, I love German foods, their sausages and cheeses, but I can't STAND this drink!! It knocks you on your whatsitz so FAST, warms your tummy so FAST though.

Anke just posted her recipe recently:
Gluehwein # 105652
Myself, I simply buy it at the store - it's not expensive and is tasty.

Don't ever use that spice packet. That's icky. I actually have been served a mug of Gluehwein once with a teabag like looking thing and a pot of sugar to go with it. They actually dared to charge for that. That has nothing to do with gluehwein, were the spice have to work their way through in the heating process ( I actually think that reheated leftovers are the best).
My basic recipe has just been published. vary it to your own taste with amaretto or rhum, as is often done. In a few days ther should be a recipe for Feuerzanegnbowle too, which is another thing some stands on the xmas markets serve.

You'd pay less, if you just take the cheapest wine ( in gluehwine the quality of the wine doesn't matter, if it's very dry, you just adjust the amount of sugar used. If managed to turn undrinkable reds into really nice Gluehwein)you can get and add the spices. And I'm sure it'll taste better too.

Merry Xmas one & all I wouldn't use amaretto and rhum together add either one to the basic. But you definetly forgot the sugar and the spices and you would want to add some orange and/or lemonslices.
