I have never posted or replied to a post in here because I have absolutely zero experience with any kind of planting. I have what you call a brown thumb..everything dies.
I don't want to pay my neighbor this year to plant flowers for me, thought I would be nice to our bank account since DH is laid off. My mom said she would take me to the Eastern Market to get flowers this year. Now I know I can't plant any until around the end of May. But, I have some tulips in a big basket DH got as a get well wish, along with some daffodils (I think) So what I need to know is can I plant these now? I was told I could. Without sounding to dense can someone tell me..if I can, how I do it, and when??? Thanks, I really like flowers and plants and I just am soooo clueless.

Hey there Dana-Bulbs are one of those things that can be planted as soon as you can dig a hole. I would buy "bulb food" or bone meal and put some in the hole-follow the directions on the can/bag. Then it's up to mother nature-and a little water from you! Good luck, Di
P.S. Get yourself back here if you need more info!

Needing more info.
(and Di I posted a thread to you in Everything Else wondering if your ok)
Ok so the flowers I have here (from DH's flower arrangement)can be planted right? Then I assume they die and aren't annual right? I told ya I am sooo clueless to this but, I am eager to learn. I plan on also planting some Impatients, I understand all you need is some dirt and a shovel for these?? Ahhh I feel like I am learning how to walk here.

Bulbs such as Tulips and daffedoils are spring bulbs and will come back next spring. They will come back every year after that but you will need to feed them in the fall. I have Tulips Daff's and hycinthias that I planted in the fall of 1999 that are now coming out and starting to bloom. One thing I do in the fall in addition to feeding them is leave them covered with the leaves from the trees this will give them a mulch over the winter and help keep the grounf moist.

AND as much as you want to (I do) dont cut the leaves back after the flowers are gone-they gather the sun stuff...for beter plants the following year-Di

Thanks so much for the advice and directions! I am rather nervous, as I said before I have a brown thumb

As easy as it sounds I can screw it up just as easy. Thanks!!!
