    Can I sub lard?

    Hi guys, I am making Awesome Homemade Crusty Bread (Bread Machine) and the recipe calls for shortening.
    I don't have shortening. I do have lard so can I substitute that or should I go with butter instead?

    I use butter in most breads, but I do have a couple that call for lard, and that makes a very nice texture. Either will work, butter adds its own wonderful flavor, of course.
