If I am cooking the slow cooked garlic chicken in the crock pot and the recipe doesn't call for water; is it ok for me to add some water in the crockpot? If so, how much water?[/recipe]

You don't really need water when cooking a chicken - the chicken itself will release juices or you may have other ingredients in there that will provide liquid. You will get more of a roasting effect is liquids are minimal. If you do feel you need some liquid, 1/2 cup would be enough. You could also use wine.

The more liquid you add, the more it's going to turn into a stew. Remember, the slow cooker conserves liquid - it does not evaporate the way it would in an oven or on the stove, so what you put in there is going to stay in there.

I'm not sure which recipe you were looking at, but this one, for example uses chicken broth and wine. Broth is nice to use because it adds flavor, as does wine.
