DH and I have been talking about this forever and now we're actually taking action. icon_cool.gif We're selling off equipment that we physically can't use anymore such as a manual wood splitter, my push lawn mower and the power washer, etc. We've opened a separate "moving" savings account. Our plan is to visit central FL in Feb to look for the right community for us. We're looking at manufactured home communities 55+ between Tampa and Orlando As much as we both love our home it's just getting to be too much work...and we're both bored to death! It's at least a 10 mile drive to anywhere from here.
Okay so here's the kicker...We had Terminix come out today and the service guy's wife grew up in this community and they're looking for a house out here! He loved it and I'll be sending pics to him in the next few days for his wife to see.
I'm looking forward to girlfriends, swimming pools and art classes. DH is looking forward to friends his own age, no yard work, pools and golf.
    So there you have it.

Thank you Mums! We're so isolated out here it'll be nice to get back into the swing of things. icon_biggrin.gif

Many many nice areas in that area. I would select closer to Tampa vs Orlando. That whole I-4 corridore closer to Orlando is a nightmare during any holidays. And from Feb through April it is living hell. Seriously.

Closer to Tampa, you have the ability to visit Tampa, Tarpon Springs, Clearwater, St Pete, and NOT too far from the Gulf. But, also have the bay; some inland lakes too; and good golf. Plus, being close to I-4, you aren't too far from Orlando and some of the outlying areas. At least I would stay west or orlando; but for me, closer to the Tampa side. I just think that the Tampa side offers a few more opportunities. 45 south of Tampa is me, Sarasota; and the John and Mable Ringling Museum, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens; but, Tampa as all kinds of museums and things. Then, heading further towards the Beach ... Dunedin is a fun day, small shops; they have an awesome art show by the water, I go every year. Tarpon Springs and the sponge diving and all the Greek Food is fantastic. Fun for a day to enjoy.

Just a bit more culture and unique things I think. But, orlando is still nice, don't get me wrong.

    Good for you and Rob!
I adore your cabin in the woods but life changes and needs with it.
A new community, closer to the action sounds like a wonderful way to spend your retirement!

Keep us abreast of your house hunting when you get to that part. After this last move of mine I get a weird kick with the househunting and packing miseries of others. icon_wink.gif

Great news! I am partial to the gulf side.

I love Sarasota's advice. We have family in Sarasota and they live in a wonderful community. There are tons to choose from.

Great news Deely! My Mom is on FL, on the east coast- in Palm Beach County. You'll have a terrific time!

Congratulations Deely. As much as I was thinking of trying to go to your get-together the Florida area might just be better for me. Love to see you and Rob again. I have a chance every year to go to Florida but I always seem to have another trip in mind. icon_lol.gif I feel I have to travel when I can.

Thanks all! We did a Sam's club run this morning so I'll be busy putting things up for a while. As soon as that's done, I'll be back to talk with everyone. icon_smile.gif

Welcome back from your undercover gig So Cal Gal. icon_lol.gif DH is having a few tinges of doubt since this is the only home he's ever known...But he's still selling off stuff and finishing things in the house we never got around to when we built it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. icon_wink.gif

I was hoping you'd chime in Sarasota! icon_smile.gif It seems we're drawn closer to the center of Florida west toward the Gulf coast. We don't really have a preference how far north or south. Would it be okay to zmail you?
