This is the month to search out the prettiest salad recipes or create the most attractive platters of cold eats! Few cooks want to stir stuff on the hob, or heat up an oven! Scour for -- perhaps undiscovered -- great summer recipes!

What about as many al fresco dinners as possible? Or picnics when the hot sun has gone down? Anyone for a beach party?

Or do you simply want to chill out at the kitchen counter or present interesting platters of healthy cold food at the dining room table?

Put the dry white wine in an ice bucket, bring out your best glasses, and have a leisurely no-cook meal, or nibble on a mixed salad. Serve bruschetta or a baguette alongside, perhaps also put out a cheese board and a bowl of dewy fresh fruits.

Show us how you chill during this hot month!

Wot? Wot??? It's the 2nd August already, and there's no enticing platter waiting for Deb and me?? icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

These 2 are not newly made, but I hope to kick off the thread ... Come on, make something cool and inviting!

Kimchi is usually made with cabbage, but I am amazingly fond of cucumbers because they always taste cool and refreshing, and this Hot Kimchi Pickle - Quick by Derf was delicious.

This garlic bread, hollowed out and baked, was delicious. Do NOT ask what the yellow light stripe behind it all was supposed to do ... it's an older photo! icon_lol.gif icon_eek.gif

The recipe is Garlic Bread Salad by Julie B's Hive.

Wow Zurie everything looks so great that I think I need to grab a bottle of wine and airline ticket to come sit, eat and chat with you.

I am almost embarrassed to bring my cool post work dinner (meaning very quick). Made a few changes to Jackie’s Salami, Havarti, and Cole Slaw Sandwiches to fit what I had on hand and because I could not buy a poppy seed roll icon_eek.gif

Another cool lunch that was so filling that DH and I figured we skip dinner.

The Danish Pickled Cucumbers (Syltede Agurker) were easy and refreshing but Puerta Sagua's Real Cuban Sandwich was deceptively filling.

Deb, lovely!!! What more does one need on a hot day? Great shots, as usual! icon_biggrin.gif Very, very yummy!

I wonder where everyone is, actually, but I suppose ZWT keeps them busy.

Today, Aug 5, lazyme has Photo of the Day, and it looks so cool that I snagged it to post here.

It's Wedge Salad With Barbecue Ranch Dressing by Tara Kline. Doesn't the iceberg lettuce look cool? That's the thing about it: they say it's not very nutritious, but no other lettuce beats it when it comes to a crunchy chill! Great photo by lazyme!

Oh boy -- that's what I've been feeling like for a long time. It's avo season, and this is like an Avocado Ritz.

Great, tasty photo, Deb! icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif

    Hello Zurie,

Tomato, Cucumber and Clam Juice Spiced Up

This recipe was one of LeggyPeggy’s recipes… and I modified it to my personal taste.

Great drink on a hot summer day!

Skipper like seeing the sweat on the glass and the bottles does a nice job of emphasizing the heat.

My mother used to like tobacco, black pepper and lemon in V8 juice.

Welcome back to this forum, Skipper/Sy!! Long time no see!

Nice photo, and yes, I also like the suggestion of condensation on the drink -- I can see it's lovely and cold!! Very good, colourful photo for your hot summer!

(Be circumspect with brand names ... maybe next time, if used, turn the bottles slightly so the brands are not so clearly visible. But that's no great problem! icon_lol.gif )
