    Birthday meal

Having a 73rd birthday dinner tomorrow for a very good friend. Had planned on grilling but my son won't be here and my hubby long time ago quit cooking. Looking for home cooked, comfort foods as my friend is eating out a lot more since his wife, my best friend, died back in April.

Comfort food usually brings to mind things like meatloaf, scalloped potatoes, lasagna, mac and cheese, casseroles, etc. You might even package up leftovers for him to freeze and enjoy again later. A roast chicken might be good, too, everyone loves that. Or a roasted turkey breast, mashed potatoes, etc. How about birthday cupcakes?

Any chance of finding out what his favorite meal/foods are and getting his wife's recipe(s) for it/them?

One was by pampered chef. White Lightening Chili comes to my mind but a little hot right now. She was one wonderful cook. I have a few of her recipes posted in my recipes...Still trying to find where she kept some of them so I can share them with her nieces and nephews.

Perhaps you can tone down the heat in the chili (or adapt the chili recipe into a dip for an appetizer). I would probably prepare whatever recipes of hers you have, especially since he mostly eats out now. icon_sad.gif

Not knowing a persons likes or favorite foods makes it difficult to suggest comfort foods. I believe most that come to my mind have already been mentioned with the exception of Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes, gravy and buttered peas with onions. icon_wink.gif

I know it is a little late but when you said "comfort" I thought of a pot roast.

Hope the birthday was enjoyable. icon_smile.gif
