"Wow....uh.....where are those tupperware tubs?" I asked.
"Those two next to the eggs? They were gross, so I tossed 'em. Why?" she said.

I was gone this week and those two tubs were sourdough starters. She felt really bad about it, but hey, I have 3 sets of flakes saved-- really old flakes. We'll see how they do in water and after a feeding or two.

Too bad about your starter but having a clean fridge is nice.

I knew I could get some empathy and sympathy here. Thanks to my bread-buddies.

Of course, she has a point....the containers were ugly.

My starter is up and running. Two and three feedings a day for a couple of days and it's bubbling and rising well. The first day was frustrating as there were no bubbles for the first two feedings.

Awesome! That's pretty normal timing for activating dried starter that has been stored. Aren't you glad you dried some?

Yes I am. And I'm drying some more now for future fridge cleanings. Now, where do I store the flakes....the fridge? icon_lol.gif

I usually store mine in the fridge, but I know of one person who I sent starter to years ago that kept hers in a drawer. She didn't get around to activating it until 5 years later, and it still worked!

Just saw this post and had to laugh, same thing happened to me when my loving sister came to visit and cleaned mine out - I almost died but thank goodness also have saved flakes - the bigger problem, she'd found the envelopes where I'd stashed them in the fridge too and was just getting ready to throw those out when I saw what she was doing, YIKES!! that was really close icon_wink.gif
