Can't add private note or recipe to my cookbook

I can't add a private note to recipes I've used now, and haven't been able to add a recipe to my cookbook in a very long time. I've been really disappointed in this website ever since you changed from RecipeZaar. Will this ever be fixed? Or is there something I'm doing wrong?

I've added hundreds of recipes to cookbooks since we changed to food.com, as have many other members, so this is not something that is a general problem. I've also made private notes without problem. Did both of these things just now to test it out.

Please let Mary know what browser and version you are using. if you have not cleared cache and cookies, please do that as an initial step.

    Caramelpie,

We are sorry to hear you are having issues with our site. What happens specifically when you try to add a recipe to your cookbook or add a private note? We will be happy to help you troubleshoot.

I just posted the following under "cookbook problem" and forgot to mention that I could not add a private note as well. Yes, I too used to be able to but not any more. So, just to let you know, this is not an isolated incident.

The list of users is growing with the exact same problem. And as usual only the "customer support" people cannot seem to "duplicate" the problem.

I cannot add a recipe to my cookbook from FireFox 12.0 (latest version), Java is current and installed (against many's advice), Adobe Flash is current and tested. Running windows 8 64bit.

As others, no problem duplicating them here, I can add from IE 10 but prefer to choose my browser of choice rather than Food.com

As far as scrolling the cookbook list from the drop down arrow next to your sign in, I finally figured out not to click on the little button to the right. Just hover over and use your mouse wheel. The list will scroll. Not sure what to suggest if you do not have a mouse wheel.

If I sound aggravated well, sorry I am. Knew how much I would miss Zaar when I heard the news that the site would be taken over. Food.com met those expectations.

While I am far from a system geek I can get around them. Further I do not post haphazardly but when I see persons posting replies, that should be knowledgeable, blaming the user when in truth they simply just do not have the answer, I will stand with the others here.

Websites should be tested on a multitude of browsers. Sometimes code will work in one but not another. Looks to me like your developers based the website on IE and now they have a problem with some code - link in other browsers. Easy fix? No, it's not and a fix is always harder than doing it right the first time or not making the change without testing all scenario's.

I find myself more than ever on other recipe sites.

We are not "blaming the user". The problem is, when we can't duplicate it, we can't report that there is a problem as it MAY be with an individual computer. We have to take all steps to ensure that your end is fine before we are able to report anything.

You mention Firefox 12, however, did you mean Firefox 21? Firefox 12 is an older version.

What versions of Adobe Flash Player and Java do you have installed?

Mary, It seems to me that you need a new "script" as your response is the same to all those that have experienced this error. And there are several.

Yes Firefox 21, yes all updates are current, cleared browser history - cache. This is not an IPod or Tablet but I have one of those too and it does the same there as well (that should rock your socks).

If you need someone to "duplicate" the error as you seem to be the only one that is having difficulty, feel free to contact me and I would be happy to allow you to remote access and show you first hand.

The people here Mary are for the most part one of the most honorable, honest, and do not ask for help very often. All they want to do is enjoy their passion for cooking. They stayed here due to their loyalty to what once was a personal, hard working web site with persons that were not generic drones. All I am asking is that they not be treated with non-helpful generic responses simply because you may not have the answers. After two or more users with the same issues it should start to become evident that is not their personal PC.

    Hi Jockey, wave.gif
I try my best not to comment on anything in this forum, because I know
that it's a very difficult job that the elves have.
But now I will make comments, I agree with you 100%.
And I totally agree with you on the following:
" After two or more users with the same issues it should
start to become evident that is not their personal PC."

Whatever happened to a site that took their members concerns
    to heart ?
    Oh wait I know , MONEY icon_twisted.gif

Part of the difficulty is that not everyone with that browser has this problem. I am using FF v. 21, updated Java and Flash and can save recipes, make private notes, etc. This is not a problem that is affecting all users of FF. So the problem is identifying just what is causing the problem - is it a security program, is it some other setting, is it some addon, is it the type of device, is it the OS? This is not as simple as you wish it to be.

As a historical note, this site was originally designed around Firefox and optimized for it.

I too have not been able to save a recipe to my cookbook in a long time. I am not very computer savyy and I don't think I should have to be to use a website. I don't know how to clear cashe or history and again I don't think I should have to know how to do that to use a web site. I use chrome but I don't know what version. I have adobe and I only know I have updated Java because a weather site that requires it updated it for me. I never had to worry about this before, I just wanted to save recipies to my cookbook. Should be simple. Please make it work without my having to become a computer guru. I wonder how many users you have lost by this refusal to help those of us who just want to use the site and not take a computer course. HELP!!!

There. That just said it all and then some. Could not agree with you more. Sites that want to retain you and more so customer service persons that value their positions would assist you in a much different manner.

If I can help in anyway, please just let me know.

I have been unable to save recipes or post private notes to recipes for about 3 months, after I started using a new touchscreen laptop. I believe it has something to do with some kind of touchscreen compatibility issue. I don't know if my issue is at all related to yours. Thought I'd share it with you just in case. This is the only website I have a problem with.

After I first posted this problem way back in May, I heard back from Mary at Food.com a couple times and then nothing. No resolution. I'm more than frustrated by this. I can do everything I want to on my husband's netbook, my Android phone, and my Samsung tablet. But not on my touchscreen laptop (which is my primary device). I've heard that others using touchscreens have similar problems but there is no way to search this forum to find similar issues! ARGH! How inefficient can this get???
