Got hit with a 2-mile wide, EF5 (winds in excess of 200MPH) tornado this afternoon. There was no immediate word on casualties, but aerial footage showed major destruction: flattened homes, cars flipped over and crushed, residents milling around in shock or combing through debris.

Two elementary schools — Briarwood Elementary in Oklahoma City and Plaza Towers Elementary in Moore — were heavily damaged. It was unknown how many children may have been in the schools when the twister hit.

Yesterday, tornadoes touched down all throughout the plains states.

On the news, they said an entire third grade class is missing.

It flattened a good proportion of the town (which is located just south of OKC) and they'll need a lot of help getting back on their feet.

If you wish to help, consider donating to the Salvation Army or the Red Cross.

The Oklahoma Red Cross is asking people to donate by texting Red Cross to 90999 which will be a $10 donation. The donations allow the Red Cross purchase needed supplies.

Salvation Army of Oklahoma: Text GIVE to 80888 to make a $10 donation or mail donations to:

Salvation Army Central Oklahoma Area Command
    P.O. Box 2095
    Oklahoma City, OK 73101

The Salvation Army Arkansas-Oklahoma Division has dispatched disaster response teams.

Just found out museum director's sister lost her house there today. Apparantly no injuries, but scary.

No worries about the double topic. Yours may have new information/updates. It's just terrible, isn't it.

Tornados like this one bring up awful memories for me. When I lived in N.C. we had a tornado blow through. Although it jumped our house it twisted all the oaks in our yard. They fell in a circle around our house. We had no basement, no storm shelter. Tornados just "didn't happen here". My youngest was 4 months old, the older 2 girls were 2 and 4. I had them crammed into an inner closet. So many "what if's" for years and years after.

I just can not imagine the pain-quite frankly I don't want to. They are all in my prayers.

The devastation is shocking! I feel so bad for these people and to hear their stories is heartbreaking. Prayers for the families affected and for the missing.
