I always try to be online at least 3 times a day -- hate missing your photos! icon_wink.gif

However, real life throws curveballs. On Monday 13th my 94 year old mom fell and broke her hip and is in hospital. She's about 800 km away. After a stressful few days we heard that she cannot have general anaesthetic, because of calcified heart valves. (The specialists will now consider an epidural, if that is possible ... but this has to be discussed with Mom, and she is quite capable of flatly refusing).

So we are leaving for the Western Cape tomorrow, and I may be scarce for a few days. We have no idea what to expect in the next days -- and afterwards. It is emotionally rather tiring and we feel so sad that this accident happened to her.

I'm taking my laptop, but its performance has been eccentric to say the least, so I'm hoping it doesn't pack up on me! (I usually use a desktop PC).

While having breakfast en route got a cell call from Mom's specialist -- she's had a stroke.

Long story short -- not much later several cell phone calls. Mom has passed away.

We spent some time at the hospital (brilliant, sweet people) we are now in our small cottage in Stellenbosch. Will have to starrt organising tomorrow.

    Love to you all.

So sorry to hear and you and your family have our condolences...

Mum is now at peace and not in pain....

I had this poem that I thought I would share with you today

    She Is Just Away
I cannot say, and I will not say....
    that she is dead...
    She is just away!
With a tilt of her head, and a wave of her hand.....
She has wandered off to an unknown land......
and leaves us thinking, how fair, that land must be.....
    since she lingers there.

    Always know...
    do not fear....
    She loves us, there,
    as she loved us here.

And therefore I just cannot say....
    that she is dead.....
    She is just away!

    Oh Zurie!
My sincere condolences with love and hugs,!
Your mother (and you as well) had a very hard time and suffered a lot during the last years; now she is in peace.
Death cannot kill what never dies: LOVE!
I think that now what she wishes is you and your family will be strong!
    Strong HUGS!

You guys are wonderful -- thank you so much! It means a lot to us. And Mickey, we agree with those sentiments.

Mom is far better off where she is now than lying helplessly in a hospital bed ... from which such old people rarely rise again.

I hope to be less AWOL soon. At the moment my sister, brother and I are still organising and answering endless phone calls -- but all so well-meaning. We never knew so many details and stuff were involved in "organising the death" and the service for one dear old mother!

Meanwhile, keep on posting your lovely photos! We will also be having a new and creative contest for June -- to test your ingenuity! With love, Zurie.
