How much time will you have in Vancouver & area? Granville Island is always fun for foodies. Vij's or Rangoli if you like Indian food. They are on 11th ave at Granville street. Lots of fun shopping around there.

I'll be back later with more suggestions! GG

If you're coming over to Nanaimo, I'd love to meet up for coffee or lunch. Penny's Palapa in the boat basin is lovely. Combination of great food & floating in the ocean, doesn't get any better (except maybe with a margarita!)

You are going by train! How excellent! The trip itself is wonderful, and when you cross into BC, it is Fine. Coming down out of the mountains into the Fraser Delta is just beautiful. You will love it.
My favourite bits of Vancouver are Stanley Park, the Seawall, Capilano Bridge and the Art Gallery. The Maritme Museum, go for a wander on Main Street or Robson, Granville Market (good on a rainy day, not so crowded), lots of great Asian restaurants, and there is alway Wreck Beach, LOL.
