    First - yuck.gif

We're walking along this morning, and sure enough, Mr. Sniffy Face sniffs out a dehydrated squirrel carcass from someone's yard and does his bullfrog thing - lunge and snatch. icon_rolleyes.gif

BUT I was prepared - I've started carrying a baggie of (don't laugh) cream cheese in my pocket.

I can reach in the baggy, pinch off an oozy glob of it, and he'll do pretty much anything just to lick my hand. The heeling is now coming along very nicely, by the way. icon_smile.gif

So. . . I oozed out some cream cheese, told him to "drop it" and, while he did take a moment to consider it, he DROPPED THE SQUIRREL JERKY with no other prompting from me!

We took a few steps AWAY from stinky temptation, and I let him lick the CRAP out of my hand! icon_lol.gif

You are doing so great with him - cream cheese hand and all.

    thanks, Connie. icon_smile.gif

I don't worry too much about the cream cheese hands - he licks it all off pretty thoroughly! icon_lol.gif

Good work! Cool that cream cheese trumps squirrel jerky. icon_smile.gif

Our 'leave it' skills have limitations. icon_sad.gif
Maddie nosed under the canoe and got a baby bunny. All I will say was that it was quick and that she swallowed it whole. Leave it was useless. Bouncing a rubber ball off her head was only marginally more effective.

As upsetting as it was she was just being a dog. Wish I had something that trumped that for her. *sigh*

Boys will be boys and boy dogs are even more stubborn. It's the natural scavenger in them and wired in their DNA. There's very little you can do about stopping Jar from snacking on squirrel jerky when he finds it... the best you can hope for is damage control and get him to drop it. icon_biggrin.gif
