Thanks Mary, I'm really thinking it must be and hope there's a way to combat it as the recipes are so important to me and sure can't get rid of the computer after spending this much for them icon_rolleyes.gif

Would you mind letting me know brand and model number of the PC you are using? We believe you are correct and that it is a touchscreen issue and we don't have ready access to that right now.

Just checking back on this ... It's been over 3 months and I still can't save anything to my cookbook, which is disappointing since I've used a few recipes that I would have loved to save but couldn't. I will have to find a new recipe website soon if this is not resolved. Any luck with addressing this issue? Thanks!

Danny, I'm no computer person and certainly no expert on Food.com but I was able to fix mine which started the issue. All I did was go into my Windows set up and "refresh" it was a pain and had to reset a lot of programs but all the issues I was having seemed to clear. Don't know if that'll help you but it sure solved all my issues so don't think it's a food.com problem - more a windows issue IMHO

Oh, that's too bad. This is the only site I've had problems with since I've started using this computer over 3 months ago. I'm not exactly sure how to "refresh" my computer. I'll have to look it up...

It was the same for me Dan, and I know next to nothing about computers but was desperate to make it work. So I went into the search field and when the apps for windows came up I clicked on them - don't remember which one but there was one button that said "reload" or "refresh" windows then it said if you do this some programs will need to be reloaded (which was true) but it worked. As a matter of fact ALL my programs worked better and faster. So I'm thinking that the downloads or updates that also took place must have helped to fix the problem. Hope it helps you too - let me know as I know how frustrating it was for me. Like I said, I know nothing about this stuff - so can't guarantee anything but it made me believe it's something in the windows set up and not the site here. Good luck my friend

This is the first I have heard of this - something similar happened within IE 8, but it was a Compatibility View issue. What version of Firefox are you using?

Oh really? Hmmm wonder just how I could have been forgotten or many others as well.

Jockey - have you experienced this as well? And others? It's very frustrating and this is the ONLY website that my brand new touchscreen computer has a problem with. Grrr...

Same problem and many others have it as well. Response from them has been over and over the same - update your browser, what version are you using, send to help desk with info, can't recreate the problem, we do not work on weekends, first I have heard of it, have you tried another browser, etc. etc.

There are many with the same issue and I understand that these are volunteers but dang, if you do not know how to fix it for crying out loud just say so. There are many that are messing with their systems thinking they are the only one. They are, by far not alone, even though there are persons here that would like you to think you are!

The site reacts different in different browsers. Some things work in one and others do not. For instance you can save to your cookbook in IE 10 but not in Firefox. Your cookbook list looks fine in Firefox but not IE 10. You can add a private note in IE 10 but not in Firefox. I do not use Chrome but from what I hear there are features that work there that do not in Firefox or IE. So.... Food.com home of the multiple browsers (see if you can find that post here) if you want to use the site have at least three open at all times! I am running windows 8 on a desktop, a tablet, and an HP laptop. Same problem, all devices. I do not have the issues with any other sites that I know of. Have been here for quite some time and when it was recipe zaar paid version it was ever so much different. Anyway, old habits die a bit hard so I just kind of put up with it and I have oodles of recipe's saved here. Have not found a way to transfer them elsewhere.

After a few questions I think I determined that some of the service rep's (volunteers) are running old versions and that is why they are able to use features and not able to recreate the problem. So, if you are willing to run into security issues just for food.com uninstall and find one of those old versions. Or give up your favorite browser and use another..... Unacceptable to me. There is another site that brings up many of the recipes here I have been looking at but for the full directions it then takes you back to food.com or where the recipe originated. Check it out tho so far I think it is pretty neat - LINK REMOVED BY MODERATOR

Sorry I was unable to help more or provide you with any hope it will be soon looked at cause I don't think it will!

Thanks for commiserating. icon_smile.gif Stinks that they don't have anyone who can identify whatever programming glitches have led to this point for so many. I really want to just switch to a different recipe/cookbook site but, like you, I have so many of my favorite recipes saved here and I haven't found a way to transfer them easily. If I have a day with a lot of free time (ha!), I'll just do it all manually and be done with this obnoxious issue. For now, I'll use my Windows 8 computer like I normally do but if I find a recipe to save, I'll pull out my smart phone and save it on that. What a pain...!

So, just to prove that we do not automatically recommend Flash, Java etc.

Testing is done, extensive testing (which takes TIME) using different computers and browsers (versions) before we ever recommend to update Adobe Flash Player or Java on a computer. Those are usually the culprits, not always, but usually. If we can't duplicate it - we have to narrow down as to why some experience an issue and other's do not. Many times we can duplicate it and submit it to our IT team.

I know it is frustrating with the site being so out of whack the last couple of weeks and I am sorry for the time it's been that way. If I had answers, I would give them but I will provide an update once I have some news. In the meantime, I continue to submit new gremlins to the team to add to the list!

Thanks Mary for all you do; mine is working fine now and started with no problems after I reloaded my windows program making me think it was an issue with the way it loaded before I took the computer home. It was sure a pain doing that (and reloading everything) but have had no trouble since then.

Just in the past week have started to have the inability to add private notes, also to add notes in menus. If it's a browser issue I'm a bit baffled by it since we have 3 computers in our house, each with a different browser, and the same problem happens on each of them.
