Ok, I've noticed that after the latest update that whenever I look at recipes or the forums, when I hit the "back" button, it goes back to the previous page, but not the previous position, as it used to.

This is a pain in the butt if I click on a recipe at the bottom of the page to look at it, then hit "back" to go back to the list and it doesn't go back to where I left off on the page, but back to the top of the page. That means that I have to scroll back down to wherever I was before continuing on with my browsing. I really like the old way, where the back button took me back to the position on the page where I was before I clicked on a recipe or topic.

Call me lazy, but when I click on a recipe to view it, then hit the back button, I'd like to go back to where I was on the previous page, instead of having to start at the top of the page and scroll back down to where I was.

I don't know if it makes a difference but I'm using FF 19.0.2 as my browser.

I'm experiencing the same using FF 19.0.2, and wonder if it might be a quirk with the latest Firefox update, instead of it being a problem caused by a Food.com update. I was waiting for someone else to be the first to complain! icon_razz.gif

It's incredibly wearisome to have to scroll down the same page again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and....
    Never happened until recently.

I cannot duplicate this problem in either IE8 or FF14. I have to ask, have you tried clearing cache and cookies? The back button is working fine for me and takes me back to the recipe or forum I was originally looking at?

It goes back to the forum, but to the top of the page every time, instead of the section last looked at.

Not for me Zeldaz. What browser and version are you using?

    We're using FF 19.0.2 ~

Please have one of the IT people with that version of Firefox to check out the problem. Surely somebody in the IT department updates to the current version, although they haven't let you update!

Cleared cookies and cache and it does not help. Back button still returns to top of page, not where I left off.

Both Andrew and Liza have confirmed, we haven't made any changes to impact this so it is definitely a Firefox issue. A ticket has been opened with Mozilla. Hopefully it will get fixed soon. Firefox 20 just released yesterday, therefore, no fix version has been assigned yet. We apologize for the inconvenience and will keep you posted!

Thanks Mary! I posted the problem in Firefox Support and received the following suggestions:

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:

right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

The temporary workaround is to use Ctrl+click (or right-click) to open links in a new tab so that the long page doesn't need to be reloaded even from the cache...

wave.gif Clearing the cache, nor refreshing the page helped! Opening every forum post that I want to read in a new tab sounds bothersome! And, updating to FF 20.0 did not solve the problem either!

The team was aware of the work-around but it's still a problem and they are still working to resolve. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience and we have narrowed it down to a FireFox issue, there is just not an ETA as to when the problem will be fixed. I'll keep you updated as I receive more information.
