Would like to know if anyone has had success using egg matzo for brei. Gramps only has the egg version in the house. Should I run out for regular? I don't want to ruin my grandmothers beloved recipe!! Thanks and happy Passover...

I think that egg matzoh will disintegrate when you soak it...or even if you skip that part and just mix it with the beaten eggs.... it's really soft plus it's often made with fruit juice instead of water which, I think might make it taste odd. Can your Grandfather eat regular matzoh?

ETA: I just realized you posted this yesterday.... sorry I was offline until last night....so did you try with egg matzoh? How did it work out?

Nope...I chickened out! Ran out and bought regular matzoh and it came out fantastic...if I do say so. All credit to grandma of course! I felt the same way you did about the egg matzoh falling apart. Thanks so much for your reply!

First of all I'm glad your matzoh brie came out so well! And secondly, I apologize for not welcoming you to food.com and to the Jewish/Kosher Forum! I wonder if you would care to post your Grandmother's recipe? If it's not a family secret that is! You could write it in a post here or enter it as a recipe on the site. If you aren't sure how to do that, feel free to ask. I will be offline for Shabbos and then again from Sunday night through Tuesday night for the second days. Otherwise, I usually check my forum notices a couple of times a day. Good Shabbos and Good Yom Tov!
