Hundreds of family pets, protected species killed by little known federal agency.

It was an August morning two years ago when Maggie, a spry, 7-year-old border collie, slipped through the backyard fence of her family's suburban Oregon home. Minutes later, she was dead – her neck snapped by a body-gripping trap set by the U.S. government less than 50 feet from the home she shared with the four children who loved her.

"It is an image that will never leave me," Maggie’s owner, Denise McCurtain, of Gresham, Ore., said of her death. "She was still breathing as we tried to remove the trap. Her eyes were open and she was looking at me. All I could say was 'I’m trying so hard. You didn’t do anything wrong.'"

I find it horrifying that a federal agency intended to protect wildlife are doing this.

Gut wrenching enough that the dog died but OMG what if it had been a small child?

Yeah, my blood is boiling. icon_evil.gif

I'm so mad I could spit venom. I don't even even know where to start. I thought claw traps were illegal, already. Cyanide gas traps are a new one to me.

It is only a matter of time before a person steps into one of them and is serious maimed. At least surround the area in yellow hazard tape to warn people that they are there.

Unfortunately, in a court of law, pets are still viewed as "property" and not a living, kind creature. In the event of a death by negligence to your pet you are only allowed monetary dollar replacement value. How much is a shelter pet that you have loved for years worth in dollars? Probably less than a hundred buck$.

They admit to killing endangered species as well. What are these fools thinking?

I can't even write anything, or read most of what you wrote, but this is so horrible, it makes me sick to my stomach.
