How to Play Pick A Chef:



If you are new to the event you may be wondering what all of the fuss is about. Pick A Chef is an exciting way to discover new chefs, recipes, and an opportunity to get to know other chefs in our community. And it’s truly a fun event. When you "adopt" a chef, you are agreeing to make & review at least three of his/her recipes before the event deadline. You make the recipes & submit your reviews any time before the April 19th deadline. There are a few rules on how the selections work, but PAC is very easy to play. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have here or zmail any PAC host. We will be more than happy to help you!


Look at your About Me Page & the criteria below.
Decide which of the following category you fall into. (If you need help just ask. )

PAC Spring Player Definitions:
We look at three things to sort players. 1) The date the member joined, 2) the number of recipes they have posted, and/ or 3) the number of ratings on those recipes.

Preemie: Has 4 or fewer posted recipes and 25 or fewer ratings on those recipes. The date they joined does not matter. Preemie chefs will be featured in our Preemie Care Center which will open the second week of the event .
Newbie: Joined during 2012 or 2013. Newbies have a minimum of 5 recipes posted. The number of ratings on those recipes does not matter.
Undiscovered Chefs: Joined before 2012, have a minimum of 5 recipes posted with 25 or fewer ratings on those posted recipes.
Newbies and undiscovered chefs are automatically added to the list on opening day.
Seasoned Chefs: Joined before 2012. Has a minimum of 5 recipes posted and has 26 or more ratings on their posted recipes. Seasoned chefs are added after they adopt a newbie or undiscovered chef.

The Adoption Center is designed to make it easier to see the status of chefs and a list of available babies.

Post your selection of the chef(s) you would like to adopt just as you did your information.

An adoption request should look like this:

Once your adoption request has been approved by a host, select three recipes per chef & post them in this thread. The post should look like this:

Changes in selections are more than ok. We all understand menu changes. Report your completions anytime before the event deadline. Photos are welcome as well. We love hearing about (& seeing) the recipes you tried.



There are several threads to watch during Pick A Chef. Each has a purpose, but the action is here in the MAIN thread. Pick A Chef has grown & grown thanks to all of you so it no longer fits into a single spot. There's simply too much traffic & information for one thread to handle.

The Spring Safari Adoption Center is a read only thread. It is designed to make it easy to see the status of chefs during PAC. It has the lists of choices for chefs (the Pick Me Lists) and the list of all chefs already adopted. It is also the home of the Preemie Care Center (PCC) where we adopt Preemies. There is no posting in the Adoption Center thread.

The PAC Spring 2013 Facts & Figures is our place for record keeping. All adoptions, recipe selections, and completed commitments are listed here for easy viewing. Please do give our PAC hosts a chance though as there is lots to do to keep this page current. Recipe selections & completions should be posted in the Main thread as

Check the Spring PAC Baby Race thread for approval/ rejection of your adoption requests on Opening Weekend. The list will be broken by pg #'s, so if you posted on pg 3 your request will be in that group. This thread will only be in use *opening weekend.* There should be no posts except by hosts.

On opening weekend please plan to be patient!
It is crazy busy & your hosts work as fast as we can. As many hands as we have working it still takes a while for everything to be sorted and in place. We hope you jump in & play, but there are always chefs to adopt so playing the first day is not required.

If you are new to Pick A Chef you might prefer to watch a bit on opening morning before jumping in. Your hosts have lists of 100's of names so there will always be babies to consider. We've never, ever run out.

One of the special features is the fun of adopting a preemie. For many adoptees this will be their very first review. Do you remember how excited you were? We have the opportunity to share the love. Preemie recipes are also great ways to fill out menu plans, etc.

Preemie members have 4 or fewer posted recipes so adoptions are opened to more than one person. Of course they have 25 or fewer reviews too.
All members are first required to adopt a undiscovered or newbie chef following the regular rules of play before they adoptions may be made from the Preemie Care Center.
The PCC hosts supply a short list of names for each round. If you would like to find your own preemie, you will need to make sure that the preemie is currently active on the site. This means that they must have posted recipes or photos or reviewed recipes since January 2012.
~Also when requesting adoption of a preemie that you have found, it helps speed things along if everyone informs the PCC hosts you found this preemie yourself.

HOW THIS WORKS:
You are committing to making 1 recipe for any chef listed in the PCC and it will need to be completed by the Pick A Chef deadline.
The PCC will be open for at least two hours each round and playing times will be posted here weekly. At the end of each round the PCC is closed and no more adoptions can be made until the PCC re-opens.
