Does the oil you use to fry in count as an ingredient?
Thanks
Hi jbum, I'm not on staff at Food.com, but I hope I can answer your question.
If you start reading from page 1 on the "New contest 5 Ingredient Fix" forum, you will see questions about seasoning, pan & baking dish prep, packaged foods, and also water to boil in. One of the staff ("elves") will come along and answer more in detail. I'm just basing this info on what I understand the rules to be.
It has been said that if it is a key ingredient in the recipe (if it would "taste" different without using it), then it would have to be counted.
I want to say "no" if used to oil a pan, but lots of oil for "deep frying" would probably have to be in the list of 5 ingredients.
Just wait for an "elf" (oh "K-A-T-H-Y") to come and answer in more detail before submitting a recipe. (Sometimes the "elves" take the weekend off, so you may have to wait until Monday for a complete answer).
Good luck to you with your taters.

(Kathy from the Food.com staff, (she's the head "elf") will come to your aid soon.)
