how many of us actually eat at our dining tables all the time? Do you? Or do you grab a plate and pop down in front of the tv?

I have to admit that lately it is more in front of the tv than actually sitting at the table. My work has been so hectic lately that it just seems easier. I do miss all of us sitting down together though.

Now that DH and I are empty nesters, we mostly eat at the counter bar in the kitchen. Our kitchen is open to our living room area.
When our youngest daughter is home from college we often will have her older sister and my dad come over for a family meal and then we all eat at our dining room table. I think the dining room table misses us sometimes. Lol. And yes, I miss it too.

Last night was the first time in quite a while that we actually all sat down at the dining table and ate together. It was really nice. My youngest daughter made me "pinky promise" that we would start eating there every night. Wonder how long that will last??? icon_lol.gif

I didn't bother with anything except the dishes we used and I popped a long narrow basket in the center with three candles. Easy and done in about 10 minutes.

We eat at the dining room table every single night. (We do not have an eat in kitchen.) The only time we ever eat in front of the TV is if there is a Super Bowl game or Stanley Cup game.

I enjoy our family time together at meals. It may only last 15 minutes some days but it is still time to catch up with one another.

My DH & I both come from families that ate together every night too so I guess we are creatures of habit. Our kid's friends think it is really neat that we do this, but for us, it is normal and just what we do.

My DH and I also both grew up in families that ate together every night. Somehow, we just got out of the habit of doing it, but we're working on changing that. We've eaten at the table more in the last month than we did in the last several years. I had really forgotten how much fun it is sitting down together and talking about things that happened that day. My children really seem to be enjoying it too.

If it was up to me we'd eat at the table every night. But DH wants to watch the news or various science shows while he eats.

When I was growing up, we always ate at the table. I have gotten out of the habit (and the table has become a collection of junk right now), but one of my goals right now is to get it cleaned up and start using it as intended.

I don't have a dining room or dining table -- wish I did. But I do have a lovely antique kitchen table and chairs. I use it a lot when I have company. But when it's just me, I sometimes eat at the kitchen table or in front of the TV if something really good is on -- I like documentaries and old movies!

It's just me, and I do have friends over.

When married, most times at the table; but, both out jobs, we were never home at the same time, or if we were it was 7, 8, or 9pm. When we could I did.

But, a breakfast nook. NOT the dining table. Or we ate out by the pool on the lanai.

With kids, Yes, we ate in the kitchen nook or on the lanai most night. However, some nights, he didn't get home from soccer until 8pm. I let him eat in his room, but DH and I ate at the table.

NOW, just me. I usually like to eat by the pool. Sometimes on the floor in the great room by the TV with my computer if I am busy, sometimes at work as I work evenings and midnights. And sometimes at the table.

Company, I set up the table inside and out; but always allow people to set where they want. I find meals to be very casual, TV is on music; most of my friends enjoy it. NO cell phone, NO loud music or ipods. But, I will usually have the weather channel, news etc; or if a game is on; absolutely.

If there is a big game on, and I am having a BBQ, NO WAY would I turn it off. Let them sit where they want.

I do like my kitchen nook with coffee for a few minutes every am. I check out the local news and plan the day.

Sarasota, I am green with envy at the thought of meals out by the pool or on the lanai. I have been trying to talk my husband into getting a pool this summer, but not having much luck. icon_cry.gif

I love the pool and jacuzzi. Sometimes, I pack up and go to the beach. Dinner and a quick walk. Just love being outside.

Sorry, DH, doesn't share the same love. I do love eating outside when possible. In FL, the pool in May through Oct, so we do get our use definitely
