I'm not sure if you are still looking, but here is a link to a site that sells a pattern for $3.99 - several different animals.

I made dog and cat puppet mittens in the 1960's for my children. I believe the pattern was a Coats & Clarks Red Heart yarn leaflet or on the yarn packaging. I too lost the pattern over the years. Ravelry has some that are certainly similar if not the same but no pattern. At least I have not been able to obtain it. They were made with no thumb a knitted mouth and top and bottom. Very cute. Would like to know if you ever locate the pattern. I will do the same

    Here's an ePattern for $4.99:

They don't list a cat, but I believe it would be really easy to customize one of the pattern to make one.
