Hello menu pals!!! How is everyone today? I'm still plugging away at work, but we might take off very early in the morning to my DS's away game very far away, so I thought I'd start the thread!!
This coming week has Chinese New Year's AND Valentine's Day. Anyone doing anything special for these occasions?
Share your menus!!!
I'll be back later with mine.

Hi- No special plans for either day, but we will probably get together belatedly for some cooking with 'our' Taiwanese student. At the very least, I need to go with her to the Asian market so that she can teach me how to find some of the wonderful things she's made! You need a tour guide though since almost nothing is in English.
Simple menu this week... (I think that's actually every week, but at least it's a menu!)
Sat – pasta, jarred sauce, frozen fish and veg (cheaper and faster than takeout; sometimes you just need a day off from cooking effort)
Sun – Salmone Alla Toscana with millet and veg
Mon – Moroccan Beef With Honey Spice Couscous and carrots
Tue – mystery soup/stew from freezer with bread (I think it is lentil soup; the label apparently fell off)
Wed – Spicy Mulligatawny Soup ( Chicken ) with tortilla or another njera attempt (I will make the 'soup' with only minimal liquid so it is more of a sandwich filling than a soup)
Thu – salmon melts with veg (did not make last week and need somethong fast and easy this night)
Fri – leftovers or get together with family, so TBD
Hope anyone in the northeast is able to read this and therefore has power and is warm enough!

C - Travel safe and have fun. At least you don't have any bad weather like the NE. Stay safe and warm those in the NE.
Well, this week I did a great job of NOT buying too much (food items). I was under $20 for the week. This week - same plan. But I do want to make 4 small pot pies for the freezer. I have the veggies and pie crust, just need to pick up chicken.
I hope everyone had a great week. I got side tracked 1 day, but ended up making most things on the list. This week, I'm making pot pies, kale, mushroom, cheese ravioli; also, a chicken and cheese ravioli (all for the freezer)

Back home from our spur of the moment trip to Fresno to see youngest DS pitch. Alas, he didn't get in, but it was still nice to go support the team. Gorgeous drive through the snow covered mountains (we had a storm just the day before and it dropped the snow level a lot!).
This coming week is the last week my eldest DS will be with us. He leaves for Spring training next weekend.
I received my crock pot in the mail, so I'll be breaking it in this week. I have some repeats on my menu because a lot of things were juggled around last week.
Saturday - Fresno trip - no cooking!
Sunday - Chinese New Year!!! Chinese Egg Rolls, Chicken Lo Mein, and maybe some wonton soup
Monday - Southern Style Crock Pot Ham, and some scalloped potatoes, salad
Tuesday - Crock Pot Taco Soup with chips and salsa
Wednesday - Raspberry Ham Paninis and salad
Thursday - Valentine's Day!!! Youngest DS has a game, so no big celebration this year. Slow Cooker Baked Ziti and salad
Friday - Watching baseball game, so something on the go

I'm not a huge fan, but now and then. My husband would never touch pea soup; but my Dad ... he loved it.

It really is. I just had to report back ... my mystery meal from the freezer turned out to be ... split pea soup! Which was great for a damp and rainy evening.

I'm making in for Lady #3 I cook for tomorrow. Of course I'll make a bit extra for me. It's supposed to be cool this weekend, so that sounds like a good lunch for the weekend.
I actually make a fresh pea where there is no ham bone; but I usually garnish with ham or bacon; then make dippers of gruyere grilled cheese.Good stuff
