    I can't quite figure out how to eat some of this stuff

    Specifically, I am looking at a site with a bunch of Indian paneer recipes. So many look good, but honestly, I'm not sure what to do with them. I see them described variously as paneer with *something else* (spinach, chick peas, etc) in a sort of gravy. Do you put it over rice? Eat it out of a bowl with a spoon? Make naan and soak it up? Same thing with dal/dahl. I'm never sure what to do with it.

    We will eat most anything over rice, but that gets to be rather routine. If I'm missing something new (to me) and wonderful, please clue me in!! icon_biggrin.gif

    Paneer is a soft fresh cheese that hails from India. It has a fairly mild flavour
    so is best used an ingredient in a recipe that can be served with/over rice.
    It doesn't melt and works well with spicy and saucy dishes too.
    It's pretty easy to make at home. Try PANEER (Fresh Cheese).
    This is one of my all-time favourite uses for paneer. I often make it as a side dish.
    I Love Palak Paneer (Spinach and Cheese Curry)
    It's also nice cooked with peas.

    Also meant to say, you can eat dhal over rice, and it's one of those recipes
    that you can make really mild or really spicy. I love a spicy version.

    Thanks, LP. Actually, Palak Paneer was the dish I was looking at initially. I see from the pictures on this recipe that it is served as a side dish, or with bread. The recipe I was looking at seemed much soupier. Also, it describes paneer as almost like ricotta. I bought some once at the local Indian market, and it was much firmer, more like cream cheese.

    I guess I'll just have to experiment. Fortunately, we love the flavors and spiciness of Indian food, so there is not much chance of screwing it up! icon_lol.gif

    If you like Indian food, I think you'll find paneer a great addition to your
    repertoire. It's cooling if you don't spice it up and, because it's mild, it soaks
    up spice if you add it. And yes, I agree that it's firmer than ricotta.
