Have you or those you know been smacked by the rising cost of groceries, gas, or just everything? Does your budget need help stretching to cover? Dining on a Dollar is just for you! The goal is to take budget friendly ingredients and create a "tastes like a million" dish. This contest also requires you to think on your feet as there is a short time period to develop your entries. Are you up to a challenge? See what you can do to turn cheap into fabulous as we go Dining on a Dollar!

Our featured budget ingredient will always cost less than a dollar and must be used in all entries.
LINK TO RECIPES: Use Susie's Dining on a Dollar Contest~Ketchup to see the recipes as a group.
    Contest Recipes

    Contest Coordinators:
    Susie D & Baby Kato
Susie is the only one who ever sees chef names & the early ingredient list. I do enjoy the creative phase of the contest & play with the ingredients. If I enter a recipe it will be a unique idea from those submitted by others and is not eligible to win a prize. Any entry is for honest feedback only.
Baby Kato will help with the behind the scenes stuff (thanks!), but has no advantages, nor ever sees any chef names connected to a recipe. She is therefore eligible to participate in all facets of the contest.

    Our Ingredient Contributors:
The creators of the top three recipes in the most recent Dining on a Dollar Contest were asked to suggest ingredients for the contest. They did not know the must use item nor what anyone else was suggesting. They have not seen the complete list so have no early advantage. They are limited to using no more than three items from their own suggestions. Thanks to these winners for their ingredient ideas! icon_smile.gif

Dining on a Dollar Contest Rules:

Entrants must develop an ORIGINAL recipe using the secret budget ingredient & then any other 4 ingredients from the contest list provided. You may also use any other ingredients you wish after using those 5; however, the ingredients you use from the Official Contest List should be an ESSENTIAL or basic ingredient of the recipe (not optional or garnish). That is, leaving one of the items out would significantly change the outcome of the recipe.

Each recipe submission must follow the contest rules & there is a maximum of 3 recipes that any one chef may enter. To submit a recipe, please send your recipe using your personal Email account with your member name & chef number in the subject line. Send your recipe to (zaar underscore entry (Please note this is not a working link. Personal email accounts must be used. icon_wink.gif )
Only recipes submitted using this link will be eligible for the contest.
NOTE: You will be sent a confirmation when each recipe is received. If you don't get a reply within 24 hours please contact Susie D

All entries must be submitted in the body of the email. Please do not send docs.
If you plan to copy/paste please do so from the completed PRIVATE recipe rather than any in progress posting format.
Each entry is required to have the following in this order:
    Your Zaar name:
    Your Zaar Chef number:
    Recipe Title:
Recipe Intro: (optional, but this does help "sell" your recipe)
    Step by Step Directions:
    Prep Time:
    Cook time:
    Indicate One Course Category:
Indicate One Cuisine Category: if applicable

By entering you are agreeing to make & review at least the same number of recipes you entered into our contests. In this contest that number is one or two or three. You are encouraged to make & test as many recipes as you choose beyond that. Please hold your reviews until the Review Period: March 1-4

All chefs are eager for constructive feedback. We ask that your reviews are honest, polite and tactful. Reviews should not be intended to be hurtful.

To review contest recipes as fairly as possible, all reviewers are expected to make and taste each recipe reviewed. While encouraging all to follow the recipes exactly as written, we are aware that sometimes contest ingredients may be hard or impossible to purchase in some areas therefore reasonable substitutions are allowed when preparing recipes.

Photos of recipes should NOT be submitted for any contest recipe until the contest is over and the winners have been named. If a photo is submitted early, the recipe may be disqualified or the recipe by the member posting the early photo/ review may have their recipe disqualified. Photographs may be submitted, by any member, AFTER the winners are announced.

If you would like to be reminded to post your reviews during the correct weekend, please sign up for a zmail reminder by posting in this thread.

Recipes entered into our Community Contests remain anonymous therefore no promotion is allowed and you are agreeing to abide by the Honor Code by submitting a recipe.
Honor Code: Members are not to share their recipe creations with other members. Discussion of submissions and/or reviews is strictly prohibited as is promoting individual recipes in ANY manner. Reviews used for the purpose of this contest may only be posted by ONE member of each household.

    1. All recipes will be reviewed to verify the use of FIVE of the official ingredients.
    2. All recipe submissions will be hidden from view until after the entry deadline when they all entries will be made public as a group.
    3. The recipe poster's name will be hidden from view until after the End Date, so as not to bias any reviewers. Any attempt to identify or promote a recipe by the submitter OR ANYONE could result in disqualification, and a possible warning on their account at Reviews should be held until the Review Period. Early reviews will not be counted in the final results. Recipes should only be saved into your MAIN or another PRIVATE cookbook so as not to unfairly promote a recipe. All participants are on their honor to not share their recipe titles with anyone else. Doing so will result in disqualification.
    4. Once the Contest is over, all recipes will be returned to the original chef's account.
    5. Food dot com runs on Eastern Time so all dates are for 11:59pm unless otherwise specified.
    6. Any number of recipes above three will be disqualified.
    7. The contest winners win the glory & respect of their peers and a prize.
