    I'm thinking of making a re-attack with just one piece of silicone bakeware.. I've had some pieces in the past that I've given up in lieu of other things.. But this week after several experiences making my dessert tray for bunco.. I've reconsidered.. Perhaps I'd like a silicone mini muffin "pan"..Any reviews based on brand? The things I would be interested in using it for would be muffins, brownie bites and cupcakes.. Any reason I would not be satisfied using this cookstyle for these products? Thanks.. Nora

    I have a few pieces, don't really like them. They're floppy and you have to put them on a cookie sheet or something to support them. Perhaps there are some that are designed differently.

    I have thought about buying the free-standing silicone cupcake cups, I thought those had potential, but have not tried them.

    I do have a 2-cup muffin top silicone pan that I love - I use it to make poached eggs - only cost $1 at the dollar store, and easier to use than the floating egg pods.

    My problems began with some mini cupcake liners that were probably intended for candy.. I couldn't get my brownie bites out of them so had to pitch the entire project..My second try I used traditional mini cupcake liners which worked well.. only thing is that any overage on top of the liner stuck to the pan because I hadn't thought to "pam" it.. Granted.. I could be smarter by those 2 experiences.. but baking is not my favorite.. and it'll be awhile before I make a re-attack.. and by then I'll probably forget all that I've 'learned". _nora

    'nora, I am not sure about the silicone stuff.

    I bought a 12-cup silicone muffin pan (brand: Scanpan). Scanpan is a top of the range Danish product (they also make marvellous pots and pans).

    I am so disappointed with this pan. It worked just "okay" -- in the sense that I had to sit the floppy thing on a cookie tin in the oven.

    On the instructions it says to grease the hollows, which I did. I still found the muffins did not come out cleanly. But that could all still go.

    The strange aspect was that I could not properly clean the silicone muffin pan afterwards! It was soaked in warm detergent water. It was gently washed out with a kitchen sponge. And when dry, it was still greasy all over!!

    Not sure if this was just a fluke, a pan-with-a-problem!! But I have washed that pan several times, and I've just handled it again to find the instructions to read before I posted -- and the bloomin' pan still feels greasy in spots.

    That's my grudge! One does not expect such a problem with an expensive pan. (Almost as if something is wrong with the silicone itself -- I have no idea).

    Zuri- many thanks.. It's interesting that it was such a fad for a bit... I think I'm rethinking my idea... I've been trying to make everything in the kitchen really worth being there.. and maybe I wouldn't be saving anything with this silicone plan.. ie: still having to put it on a tray.. and still needing to spray it...thanks again. nora

    'nora, maybe ask more people -- your friends, people at shops.

    If I wanted to make muffins or even cupcakes now I'll use my ancient tin muffin pans.

    But keep in mind that my moans -- that the silicone Scanpan muffin tin keeps feeling greasy -- might be a glitch with the pan I bought.

    Still, I cannot say I am enchanted with the floppy pan!! icon_lol.gif

    DOH!!! I did not even know we had a silicon baking community until a friend referred me and very interesting reading re the gadgets , trays, etc

    OK...here I go...I bought the new technology Flavorstone pots, pans, trays and LOVE them

    They are sold worldwide so I am not spruiking this site but you can watch the video too!

    These are THE ABSOLUTE best pans I have EVER had worldwide and I have had a LOT of the top of the line wozzer, ones too

    OK, having said that they REQUIRE one only uses the silicone/plastic gadgets so love the whisk, spoons and all things...even the oven mitts but in my opinion are way too expensive, at least they are here...I have the mini puppet on the hand ones and find I constantly go back to be asbestos less mitts...Guess do people know there used to be asbestos in ALL oven mitts worldwide? TRUE!

    ok on to my silicone terrine experience...with the loaf pan...

    I found they were ok for breads and loafs but I always made sure to lightly oil spray or use baking paper to make getting what's inside out or its almost impossible without sticking

    I THOUGHT (and I won the lot of silicone products so for me is not about price) they were supposed to be NON STICK!!!

    It has a decorate top which does look nice in cake type things, but is a horror with anything gelatinous ( LOVE how that word sounds lol); even if using cling wrap/plastic wrap.

    I also find that even if you don't stuff it, I always put 4 cans (3 cans and a small jar around the silicone loaf pan and place it in a tray in the fridge...place cans on tray...sorry is VERY hot here today 42C) and is best I can write and think

    So, I am glad it is totally not me as I am disappointed with the products too

    I put mine in the dishwasher turned inside out and it works like a charm. In lieu of the dishwasher, I soak it for hours in the sink, inside out and comes clean every time...Hope some of what I wrote was helpful to you!

    thanks Mickie.. On the flipside of your heatwave.. we here in Idaho,USA have NO degrees.. Brrrr.. I hate to hear the heater running..

    I've no desire to return to the silicone experiment.. My fav item is my silicone potholder.. but at that.. quit... There are enough items in my stash that I've learned to like and live with.. and at this point in my life..don't need to complicate things..

    Mickey - 42C ????? Remind me not to visit Australia in the summer!!!! I start to feel sick at 90F/32C, I think I would croak!

    I love silicone whisks, spatulas, things like that. The spatulas are much easier to clean, but I have learned to get those with an integrated plastic handle, rather than wood. I love wood, but the handles fall out and really don't reattach well.

    The baking pans do not work well for me, other than the one I have repurposed to poach eggs.

    I tried one baking pan (loaf shaped) for a pound cake.....although I knew when I bought it I would need to use a cookie sheet underneath for support I was not happy with the floppiness (of the sides) of the pan. I also was unhappy with the resulting pound cake I made (from a recipe I've used successfully hundreds of times over the past 50 yrs.) The cake stuck to the bottom corners of the pan despite the pan being well greased especially in the corners. I also detected a slight "chemical" aftertaste in the cake. icon_sad.gif Needless to say, I tossed the pan out and am happily using my old metal pans! Sorry, I don't remember the brand, but it was not an inexpensive pan.

    As for my silicone spoonulas/spatulas, I absolutely love them! Sadly, the ones that are all one piece (the handle and "bowl" are molded as one piece) are getting harder and harder to find. icon_sad.gif

    The low, zero, and negative temps we've had lately are killing me! I love our summers though, and at least it's dry cold instead of the soggy Seattle cold I grew up in. icon_smile.gif

    I too gave up on the silicone experiment.

    Silicon pans are NOT for me, bought a muffin (regular and mini) and a bread pan with horrible results. The same "floppy" results others talked about, sticking and terrible to get clean. Mine had a greasy looking film as well as the sticky feeling that I could not get off no matter what and everything stuck to them even when lined on the bottom with parchment. I tried them several times as I paid quite a bit for them but ended up throwing them out.

    I put to much work into what I bake to even mess with them. Now I'm back to my old regular standbys and have given up on any silicone at all.
