Years ago, Famous Barr here in St. Louis had this delicious cake... it was yellow cake soaked with rum I believe and it had whipped cream mocha icing with slivered almonds on the side...
Been looking for the recipe for years... any information from anyone who knows would be greatly appreciated!

And this is the description of another similar cake for sale:

    RUM CAKE “cassata casalinga”:
Classic cassata casalinga “Italian home style rum cake”.

Sponge cake soaked with rum-amaretto syrup, filled with a spice-ricotta-cream-rum filling, sprinkled with pistachio nuts and shaved semi-sweet chocolate. Iced with whipped cream and garnished with more pistachio nuts, candied citron “fruit” and just a little more shaved semi-sweet chocolate.

Just splash the layers with rum before assembling this cake and I bet you've got what you are looking for, or better still substitute 1/4 cup rum for the water in the coffee syrup recipe included with the cake! icon_smile.gif

Mmmmm...that is an excellent cake recipe, 1Steve.
It looks delicious in the picture with the coffee flavored syrup, French buttercream frosting and the toasted almonds, the same like the other cakes posted there, but especially these two:

FRENCH EASY RUM CAKE - Gateau Nantais from the City of Nantes, France, and the
FRENCH RUM CHOCOLATE CAKE - Pavu Au Chocolat et au Rhum avec Creme Fraiche. Mmmmmm....icon_razz.gif icon_razz.gif

And these are another excellent cake recipes to give them a try:
