Joy, I have asked that question so often ... Ex-pats and Africans and South African women ARE members of this site. They just do not visit here.

I wonder if they know about this forum.

I myself have invited several by Food.com mail to please drop in ... with no results!

I think its time to get hold of someone and tell them to merge it in with something else, what do you think, and who should we get hold of??

Darned if I know, Joy. Maybe Kathy? Maybe we have to wait for the new community manager -- but when will such a person be au fait with all the forums?

The best would be to go back where we were in Zaar days: re-join the North African/Middle East forum.

I'd have thought that with computers no longer so scarce on the African continent (good grief, South Africa provides lots of countries with overseas connections for the internet) that more people would find us!

It could be its all about advertising and promotion. Perhaps folks just don't realize you're here. Maybe you should ask that the staff give you a BIG promotional feature on the home page and FaceBook.

I'm sure Susie would help with some type of promo game or event, if you asked her to.

Isn't it high summer there? Maybe there are festivals or events going on that people could be talking about if you started the topic.

The thing is ... for the last 2 years Joy and I have started different threads. Nothing really worked -- one tends to lose enthusiasm under the circumstances.

As to festivals: it IS high summer in Southern latitudes, but the countries are too many, and too varied. (Think of all the countries in South America -- it's something like that. Where just about only Brazil and Argentina get attention).

There are no major festivals that I know of. The way of life in most African countries are quite hard to explain.

South Africa and Namibia are almost the only countries on the Continent which can be described as "Westernised". We have far too many "festivals" in this country, but the content is purely local. Arts festivals, theatre festivals, wine festivals, seasonal harvest festivals, etc.

Mind you -- I HAVE forgotten to do a thread on the recent African Soccer Championships which was held in South Africa. I'm not a great soccer fan, but it was exciting and took place in all the big centres which have huge sports stadiums. But, I can bet you, even if I reported on the matches daily, this forum would have attracted zero visitors!

Anyway, Nigeria is the soccer champion!

Thanks for your ideas Mollyu, we have tried chats, Tag games but since then there was a bit of a fuss about forums doing their own and taking the folks away from the games. I thoought that games had stopped in most forums.

We did Leggy Peggys trip in Africa, we used to have a very lively chat forum here a few years ago.

People just dont drop in, we have sent zmails out to all the people that used to frequent here and no one seems interested will get our heads together again and give it another shot
