The residents of some countries may want to think twice before digging into their leftover Easter candy, because Nestlé has issued a voluntary recall of several varieties of Kit Kat Chunky bars and the Kit Kat Chunky Collection Giant Egg. Nestle will provide full refund for products that are returned unopened.

The recall comes after seven consumers in the U.K. discovered small plastic pieces in some products. As a precaution, Nestlé is recalling the following items in the U.K., Germany, Switzerland, Malta, Austria, Singapore, Philippines and Canada:
•Kit Kat Chunky Peanut Butter (48g); best before September 2013 to February 2014
•Kit Kat Chunky Hazelnut (48g); best before September 2013 to October 2013
•Kit Kat Chunky Chocolate Fudge (48g); best before September 2013 to October 2013
•Kit Kat Chunky Caramel (48g); best before June 2013 to July 2013
•Kit Kat Chunky Chocolate Fudge Multipack; best before October 2013 to December 2013
•Kit Kat Chunky Hazelnut Multipack; best before September 2013 to December 2013
•Kit Kat Chunky Collection Giant Egg; best before July 2013

The manufacture dates of affected products go back to September 2012. In a company press release, Nestlé offered full refunds and an apology:

The safety and quality of our products are non-negotiable priorities for the company. We sincerely apologize to our consumers for any inconvenience caused by this voluntary recall.

A press representative would not confirm the total quantity of chocolate products involved in the recall, but stressed that the company did "not expect the financial impact to be material."

Kit Kat is one of Nestlé's top-selling brands; consumers worldwide chow down on about 150 bars per second.

A Louisiana meat-packing company has recalled 20,166 pounds of potentially bacteria-tainted cooked roast beef deli meat.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said Wednesday that Manda Packing Co., based in Baker, is recalling the meat that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Food contaminated with the bacterium can cause a serious infection known as listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the disease primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, newborns and adults with weakened immune systems.

The possibly tainted products were packed Feb. 27 and shipped for distribution and to retail deli stores in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Florida, Alabama, Oklahoma, Illinois and Tennessee.

The recall includes Manda Supreme Roast Beef, Four Star Cajun Roast Beef, Four Star Roast Beef, Cajun Prize Roast Beef, Manda Supreme Natural Roast Beef, Manda Natural Roast Beef, Manda New Orleans Style Roast Beef and Manda Whole Wet Pack Roast Beef.

Each package has a "Sell by" date of May 13, 2013, and bears the establishment number "EST. 8746A" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Officials say the company has not received any reports of illnesses associated with the products.

"The problem was discovered after the firm received consumer complaints that small fragments of plastic were found in the CPK Crispy Thin Crust White Pizza. The problem was related to the lot of spinach used in the production of three additional varieties of pizza subject to recall," according to the US Food and Safety Inspection Service. "There has been one consumer report of injury thus far (a chipped tooth) associated with consumption of these products. The fragments are of clear, brittle plastic, in irregular triangles, and may have sharp edges."

Nestle Pizza Co. of Little Chute, WI is recalling four frozen-pizza products that might be contaminated with plastic fragments.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the following products are subject to recall:

    — California Pizza Kitchen Limited Edition Grilled Chicken with Cabernet Sauce.

    — DiGiorno Crispy Flatbread Pizza Tuscan Style Chicken.

    — DiGiorno pizzeria! Bianca/White Pizza.

    — California Pizza Kitchen Crispy Thin Crust White.

The USDA says one consumer reported a chipped tooth after biting into one of the California Pizza Kitchen products. The problem was apparently related to the spinach in the pizza, so the company is recalling other pizza products that used the same lot of spinach.

The fragments are of clear, brittle plastic with sharp edges.

    FREMONT, NEBRASKA, June 18, 2013

Natura Pet Products is voluntarily recalling specific lots of dry pet food because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

These products were packaged in a single production facility. During routine FDA testing, a single lot tested positive for the presence of Salmonella. There have been no reports of pet or human illness associated with this product. In an abundance of caution, Natura is voluntarily recalling all products with expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014.
