    What is a near substitution for coriander?

    In what application? Recipe number?
    Fresh coriander (cilantro) or dried coriander seed?
    The dried seed has a citrus-like fruitiness, but nothing else tastes nearly the same as either the herb or the spice. Some might recommend caraway, fennel, cumin, or cardamom seeds, but none of those resemble coriander. I might use the cardamom in a baked item, but I wouldn't expect it to have nearly the same flavor.

    I have both coriander seeds & ground coriander in my spice cabinet.
    I tend to use the ground more often. Probably, at least once a week.

    It is used quite a bit in Mexican recipes. It would be worth the investment.

    We've been getting whole spices whenever we can lately and crushing or grinding them as needed, especially if it's something we don't use frequently. They stay fresh a lot longer that way.Just re-did the herb/spice cabinet yesterday and made a Penzey's order to re-stock.

    That's a good idea. I don't have a spice grinder but I do have a mortar & pestle. That doesn't always work quite as well.

    I will keep my eyes peeled for a small grinder, I don't want a coffee bean grinder. (wish I hadn't given it away).
