Well I have been pretty good. I started on the treadmill 2 1/2 weeks ago going at 2.5 mph for 30 minutes. I'm up to 3.5 mph for 40 minutes - approximately 2.4 miles with a warm up and cool down. I think I feel a difference. icon_lol.gif

I've read over all the pages and you guys seem to be doing great. I have not. I've gotten very discouraged and found myself actually crying about food. My insurance company has contacted me about a program they have to help with medical isdues and I told them forget sbout all that, my #1 concern is losing weight. That will alleviate many other problems I have. I had a consult with a dietician today and she explained that it is not just what I am eating, it is how I am eating.

She suggested 6 small meals per day, about 200-240 each. I should get 1200-1500 calories per day. Each meal should be 3 1/2 to 4 hours apart. If your meals are too close together or if you do not consume enough calories you will store fat. I am now more hopeful.

A good friend of mine has struggled with her weight for at least the 15 years that I have known her. She used to say "But I hardly eat anything" and I originally thought that was bull and that she must be snacking on some high calorie or high fat stuff. After a few years of many lunches and dinners with her I came to realize that other than a diet soda habit she really did eat very little. 18 months ago she went to a dietitian who put her on a plan similar to the one you describe. She has lost 40 lbs. She may not lose much more because she has hip and knee issues that prevent much in the way of exercise but 40 lbs is pretty darn substantial!!!

Hang in there doll. A new eating plan is likely just the ticket!

threeovens, I hope the new eating plan gives you a good kick start.

Laury, thinking of you for Friday and your recovery beyond.

    Bonnie, you'll love Peru. Enjoy.

tasb, hope you find more energy.

I'm travelling across Australia with intermittent connections. Might not surface
again for four or five days. Good luck everyone.

Jacqueline, I am pleased that you are recovering faster than the doctor expected!!

K9Owned, having lived in both a suburb and a rural area I also prefer a rural area. Living in a suburb is something I accept. It would not be my choice. You are doing great with exercise. Keep up the good work!! That's wonderful that your friend was able to lose 40 pounds.

threeovens, I have heard that it is good to eat several small meals instead of 3 main meals. What my doctor has encouraged me to do is 3 meals plus a small snack between breakfast and lunch. and lunch and dinner. The schedule we were on when Tom worked was so difficult that I had to have healthy snacks.
Breakfast was 4:30, lunch was noon and dinner was around 6. I have cut up fruit and vegetables for my snacks.

I have decided that for the next few days I am not going to worry about what food I eat. Last year when I had oral surgery the doctor and nurse insisted that we stop on the way home to get me a large milkshake so I could go home and
go to bed. I am not going to worry about how many calories are in a large milkshake!! For a few days I will live on
sherbet, sorbet, warm pasta with no sauce, etc. When I am back to exercising I will be more concerned with calories. Until then I eat what Tom gives me without complaining, fighting or crying.

thereovens, I know how you feel, I have had weight loss surgery and am still way over weight. I am scared to death my diabetes is going to come back. This past summer I had poison sumac really bad and took three rounds of steroids, I gained weight like crazy and have not been able to get it back off. I have been scare to death since I had my shoulder surgery on Jan. 11th that I'd gain a bunch of weight, so far I have gained some but quickly lost it. I so hope I can get back into eating right and losing at least 30 lbs, 50 would be nice though. Hang in there it will happen but you do have to work at it.

Laury, hope your surgery goes well tomorrow. I'll do my best to check in a little more often this weekend.

I got my tax papers to the tax man today so that will be behind me come the first of next week. I can't wait. I also get to quit wearing the stabilizer tomorrow and get to up my PT, I guess they will had bands and weights to my exercise tomorrow when I go to PT.

    Have a great evening everyone.

Laury, Hope you are feeling better today an not quite so "loopy" I remember those days from January, right after I had my shoulder surgery.

Bonnie, so glad you are enjoying Peru so much. I kind of think I'd like to travel but then when I think about it, I think but I like home too much to do that. LOL

Bonnie - Peru sounds just wonderful. Wonderful enough to think about it for next January's trip with my Mum. icon_cool.gif

Laury I hope you are feeling less loopy today. It takes some time for the anesthetic to wear off - I've been told by nurses in recovery to drink lots and lots of water to speed up the process.

Jackie - I hope your shoulder is easing up but at the risk of sounding like my Grandmother please don't overdo it.

I'm off to check up on Leggy Peggy's travels. icon_cool.gif

Three Ovens......... I was concerned about you the other day and completely forgot to ask you how your DH is doing now.

We all know we should look after ourselves first so that we can more easily look after others but that advice always seems to hit a wall when it is someone we love who is very ill. I hope that he has improved enough that you can start seeing to yourself and your needs as well. Big hugs!

Bonnie, it's wonderful you are enjoying Lima!! Have fun exploring new territory!!

Jacqueline, I hope that your shoulder is continuing to heal and not having pain.

K9Owned, how is Leggy Peggy doing? I haven't taken the time to check out her blog yet.

Three Ovens, I agree with K9Owned on how important it is to take care of yourself to make it easier to help take care of the one you love.

I am feeling very off today. I think it is caused by the surgery and the fact Gainesville is very humid today. We will be having huge rain showers for the next few days. I will be fine. I just took a shower and noticed lots of brusing above my lip. It will probably take a while to heal.

Laury, sorry you are feeling bad and I know how humid weather is, we get lots of it here in KY, in the Spring, Summer and Fall. But glad you are able to get up an shower.

Everyone have a happy Sunday and see you all tomorrow. I think I am going to church this morning.
