Wow, I did not realize it had been so long since I had posted. I think I am finally over this round of allergies/cold/flu whatever it was, I don't want it again though. I did make another appointment for my EGD and it isn't until Oct. 9th hope I can stay well that long.
Granny Moses, Laury and Tasb so good to hear from all of you.
I find myself spending less time on the net these days, so I may not be around much but I will check in from time to time.

tasb, it's tremendous that your exercising has made your body stronger!! I hope when I return to exercising, after the stitches are removed and my body is ready, I hope it can quickly go up to walking 10 minutes without stopping.
Jacqueline, I hope that you are feeling better.
I had been having a hard time with some of the things on my discharge papers. My doctor, who I have been with for about 15 years, has explained that when I don't drink enough liquid my voice gets weaker. I am to drink as much as I can of water, Crystal Light, 1 cup of lemonade a day (for the Vitamin D) and 1 diet soda a day. The discharge papers said only drink 1 liter a day. Nobody at the hospital mentioned it. I finally e-mailed the Cardiothoracic surgeons office and asked why this had changed. It turns out that they usually deal with cardio (heart) patients. For them, they only can drink 1 liter a day. I should do what my doctor advises. Thursday before my stitches are taken out they want another
chest x-ray. This will be about my 10th this year. I am going to ask them if they really need this or is it for their heart patients. I also am e-mailing the lung doctor to see if he has heard or seen any reports from the surgeon yet. If not, perhaps his office wants to find out if he will get it anytime soon. I am tired of waiting and having no answers.

Laury, Sorry to hear you had so much confusion on your release from your surgery. At least you got it straightened out. I hope you get some answers soon.
When I was let out from my burst appendix surgery I wasn't given any instruction other than not working for 6 weeks. I wasn't given a follow-up appointment, until I ended up at a walk-in clinic with brown crap coming out of my cut. The walk-in clinic had to phone the hospital to find out who the surgeon was and to get instruction on what to do.
Me, well I took Friday and Saturday off exercising. I will my exercises tonight though, which is my normal routine. I got on the scale and I went up 2 lbs, but I also did measurements and I went down in most of my measurements so I am happy with that. I was in a bit of pain from working out and I find when I am like that then my weight tends to be up.

Well summer is over, I am back to work as of today. Found out that they fired the secretary and a support staff member so me and 2 other support staff are going to be working in the office. I said because our numbers are so low now that I am probably going to get a whole week out of a case of fruits I will be available between breakfast and after snack. I will still need time to cook lunch and clean up at the end of the day so I will need to be in the kitchen after that. It will help me fill my days, the past couple years I have been feeling like I have been stealing the school's money being there when I have nothing to do. This will help fill that void and it will be stuff I have been mainly doing anyways, answering the phone. Maybe some filing or typing.

Well now I am supervising recess two times a week, how did that happen? Oh well I will try and cut it back to 1 because that is just taking too much time out of the kitchen. If I was doing office work I could easily answer the phone in the kitchen I don't have to be in the office full time. Plus this week in the afternoons I have been moving things around. We moved a desk today, I am cleaning up things (getting rid of dog hair), and cleaning up the office and making lists of things we are going to need, especially sign out sheets for EVERYTHING big or that is expensive, and set them where everyone can find them. I am putting electronics on lock down.

tasb, all the doctors and the hospital are working together for me. I am involved with a medical group involved with the medical school at University of Florida. The way it works, discharge appointments and instructions are given before I was released.
It looks as if your job has been assigned new duties. I can understand handling the office work you have time to fit in with your meal job.
I finally heard from my lung doctor as to what the last test has shown. The test showings non-specific and inconclusive. The lung doctor is sending tissue samples to other lung specialists to get a second opinion. I am done with all doctors except my gp. Tomorrow I have 1 more chest x-ray and stitches are going to be taken out. [/u]

Me, I am getting tuckered from this new job duties. I am in the office full time all this week, not getting much done because I really don't know where to start. It doesn't help that we are missing the laptop that the former secretary used, I was hoping to find it with all work on it so I could piece things together. I had another co-worker come in and start putting things in the desk, pens, what not. I tried all day to work on my menu, but coming up blank most of the day. I started working on sign out sheets myself, updating them for what I think they should have. I will probably have to work on a newsletter tomorrow morning and head to do some shopping in the early afternoon.

Hey y'all. Sorry I've been MIA for so long. It's been a busy summer and not much to report on the subject of weight loss. I still randomly show up for Zumba and I've been walking quite a bit (with short bursts of running mixed in). My scale has been either stuck or creeping down at such a slow pace for so long I almost hated to step on the darn thing. I decided I needed to try something new to see if that would shake things up so last Monday I started Chris Powell's Carb Cycling. I've never done low carb (Atkins, South Beach, etc) because I just like my carbs too much and I knew I wouldn't stick to it, but on this plan I alternate LC & HC days. This is day 6 and so far so good. I peeked at the scale this morning and in 5 days I'm down 1.6 pounds. That was encouraging! We'll see what happens in September. I'll try to pop in more often and see what's up with everybody else. Have a great Labor Day weekend!

Hello, I am having a busy long weekend. I seen lots of ads on our local Kijiji for fruits and veggies for pick up at the local farmers market. So I HAD to go there this weekend. With $80 in hand I came out with almost no change left in my pocket. I was able to get 6 pints strawberries, 20 lb peaches, 3 bunches basil, 2 heads lettuce, 5 lbs pears. Then picked up grapes and maraschino cherries at the store to round out my canning needs. I also went to another store and picked up a propane turkey fryer for putting my canning outside.
Yesterday I did up 40 (1/2 cup) jars Summer Fruit Cocktail (peaches, pears, grapes and maraschino cherries). It was 2 batches. The propane burner was a learning curve. I have to go out to keep the timer running, but it worked awesome. Then I made a Frugal Pesto I found on Pinterest. It uses sunflower seeds instead of pine nuts. I doubled the batch and ended up with 6 (1/2 cup) jars, not all the way full, and 11 tbsp frozen in a ice cube tray. I was tired I did need a nap and then I didn't exercise. I think I got more than enough anyways. I did pack the peaches almost 3 blocks and then packing the canning pot around filled, it was breezy outside so I didn't want to take the jars out of the canner outside and risk them breaking.
Today, I was lazy most of the day. Finally after lunch I started baking. I did up a double batch Peach Muffins (ended up with 2 dozen & 7), made a Peach Up-Side Down Cake and have 6 loaves White Bread still rising.

tasb, working so often in the school office must make it hard to come up with good school menus. I'm impressed by the amount and variety of vegetables and fruit. I don't think any person working on dieting and exercising is lazy.

Jacqueline, maybe when things quiet down around you, your weight will come off.
For myself, I am very discouraged at having to keep waiting for the answer. The situation is one where I have polyps in my lungs which the doctors have never seen before. Since they can't find out how it's happening, making it go away is next to impossible. It feels so lonely waiting and realizing there is nothing that can be done. The incisions in my body 2 out of 3 are closed and healing. There is a large incision in my stomach and I can't wait until it closes.

Hope everyone is doing fine. My Mexican friends have had a rough week, so I have been right there with them trying to help as much as I could. Hopefully tomorrow it will ease up for them.
I am gearing up for my 40th, yes I did say 40th class reunion this weekend. Starts tomorrow night and goes through Sunday morning breakfast, but being I live here close by, I won't be doing Sunday morning breakfast so will end for me on Saturday night.
Everyone hope you are feeling good, exercising like you desire and losing a lb or an inch here and there.

Jacqueline, hoping all goes well with your friends soon, so great you are there for them. 40th class reunion, wow. I missed out on my 10th because I was too broke to go and very pregnant. 20th is next year, I haven't heard of any plans.
Me, well this week was a bust with exercising. I did all that canning, freezing and baking last weekend and was just too tucked out. Then the last 2 days I have had a nasty headache. It would come on in the afternoon and stay with me all night. I think I am mainly dehydrated, so the past 2 days I have been trying to get in a lot of water. Hopefully next week is better. With work we are trying to figure out our strengths and play off them, so the reception work hasn't been too bad. I have been doing most of the typing and answering phones. The other 2 have been doing photocopying, and the one has been doing files. I told them we should all sit down and figure out our strengths and divide up the job so we aren't all mixed up.

This morning I walked for 10 minutes. I probably would have tried for a second 10 but Tom woke up and started making coffee. Then we needed our time together. I am still healing from the incisions. Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease which slows things like healing down in my body. Eventually I will improve. Has anyone ever heard of Cotton Candy grapes? They are a new type of grape which are extremely sweet. Even Tom will eat them.

We're finally home. I haven't had a chance to catch up on this thread but hope everyone is doing well. The scale was neither kind nor unkind to me. I weigh about the same as I did when we left almost three months ago. We ate healthily most of the time, but probably too much. Back to exercising and eating less.
We've had a warm welcome home -- with very nice temperatures at the end of our winter. But it will be coldish again by Wednesday. Most of you are heading into autumn. Not sure how things are where you live, but my cousin in Minnesota said it was 95°F there today. Yikes.
Don't know if I had told people that our last dog died the day before we left on our trip. Fortunately, we are mind a friend's two dogs for a couple of weeks, so it doesn't seem so strange. But we do miss the little chap. We'll be travelling again from the end of October to early December, so no new dog until after that.
Anyway, cheers to you all.
