    You all and your boo-boos make me feel so much better. Last week I used my Ninja cooking system, that I am going to blame Bonnie for me purchasing. You know I can't take the blame for that big of a purchase alone. Well, this recipe called for onions and mushrooms and it said to cook them first, it did not tell me to remove them while the roast cooked. I didn't and when the roast was done, there was no sign of any gravy and really no sign of onions, you could still tell there was mushrooms in it but they were chared. The roast still tasted good but I have learned that I do the veggies then take them out and add back in at the end. A seasoned cook would probably have known to do that but I am not a seasoned cook.

    I got the shock of my life today, I knew my clothes were fitting snug but I figured since I was sitting on my butt most of the day the fat had rearranged itself, 'cause the scales had not shown a weight gain. Well they did today, a whole six pounds. I also awoke with a UTI so had to call my PCP and he called me in some medicine for the UTI and told me that he bet the six pounds was water weight but that he expected I'd gain while laid up with my shoulder and not to worry about it. I am worried but due to the UTI and the need to lose I am upping my water intake and hopefully they will be gone in a few days.

    Laury you take care of yourself and do what Tom says, except you don't step down as a co-host because I don't know who else would host and I like hosting with you. Plus as I said before we are not required to be here every moment of every day. Take the time you need.

    Bonnie I am sure you ice-cream will be wonderful and will showcase your skills just fine. Most every time I try to make a decent impression with my cooking, something goes wrong.

    K9, My yoga DVD came in today, I ordered the one you recommended along with the mat and something else. Now if I could only use it.

    Happy for those of you that are losing, I can't wait to be able to do more.

    Oh cooking flops! I've had my share, so can sure sympathise.

    Laury, when I'm coughing at night, I usually sleep in another bedroom.
    I should say 'try to sleep'. icon_rolleyes.gif But one thing that really helps is to use
    about six pillows. By keeping your head way above your chest, the fluids
    don't run back down so much and set off a coughing fit. It's like half-sitting
    up and you can actually fall a sleep because you don't cough as much.

    Bonnie, this is the first year that I have ever tasted a King Cake. Tom bought it at the supermarket on Sunday. It was good.It seemed to have apples and cinnamon with several colored sugars on top.

    K9Owned, I am guessing that anchovy paste and Italian sausages and peppers were not the taste treat you were hoping for.

    Jac, I spoke to Tom after I spoke to you. I explained that right now with 4 doctors appointments in 2 weeks my body is more than exhausted. I have to be strong enough to insist on 1 doctor appointment a week with never an exception to the rule. My immune system is basically turned off so my rheumatoid leaves me alone. No wonder I am so tired!!

    Leggy Peggy, we live in a one bedroom apartment. I am not permitted to sleep in the living room. My doctor insists that if somebody move, it not be me. I always use a lot of pillows and with rheumatoid lungs, it is required.

    Well, we still ate the cake, just "around" the filling. It and my story was the hit of the party and provided some good laughs if more than a little embarrassment for me, but the homemade french vanilla ice cream made up for it in a big way. icon_wink.gif

    Leggy Peggy, we both were able to sleep a little better last night. I was up coughing but he slept through it.

    Bonnie G, I'm glad that you had a good laugh over it. I'm sure the ice cream was well received.

    For us, things are going very strange over here. Tom's last date to be the night assistant manager is February 28!! Today, during day time hours, we have had 2 nursing alarms which usually means a person is ill and needs help NOW. Too bad the day person is nowhere to be seen or heard from. That's one of the reasons he quitting.n

    Bonnie, we had a new preacher coming to our church and I made a cake for he and his family's arrival into our community. The darn thing fell, but it tasted wonderful, so I just cut the cake, smaller pieces I might add, and took the outside edges and what was on the inside until it had that look felled cakes get.

    Laury hope you are feeling better. Today has been a good day for me, tomorrow I have PT and then only one more week of wearing the stablizer.

    Bonnie, hope you can get some rest between parades. I did the opposite ingredient mix-up one time. I was making Deep-Fried Zucchini Sticks and was wondering why my batter wasn't getting thicker as I kept adding more and more cornstarch. Then it dawned on me that I grabbed the Icing Sugar. Thankfully I figured it out before I started adding flour and deep-frying.

    Granny Moses, good for you getting your exercise in, and healthy eating.

    Jacqueline, sorry to hear that you have to keep your sling on 2 more weeks. Well it is probably for the best.

    Laury, so happy the mini bus was able help you out. Some people are just awesome like that. Sorry to hear you and Tom have had troubles with his Manager position. I would probably quit too if that was going on. Take care of yourself during this stressful time. Don't worry about us too much. We are a pretty well behaved group. Keeping you in my thoughts while you prepare for your oral surgery.

    Me, well yesterday was me sitting in the ski lodge all day, well until after 2, I was told my youngest was up the top of the bunny hill and refused to come down with anyone. So I got bundled up and went out to go get her, I got to the bottom of the hill and was told no she wasn't being stubborn that she had fallen and hit her head or shoulder, and ski patrol was coming to get her. Thankfully there was a escalator going up the hill, I jumped on that and started trucking up the hill. I got up there, she was on the ground beside a skinny post. I sat there waiting for the snowmobile to come to get her, and for her sister that was behind me. We had her loaded up when I spied her sister coming back down the hill, she passed right by us. So I waved her over. We went trucking back to the lodge and to the 1st Aid Station. She checked out alright, just fell and bumped her collar bone on a bamboo post. More scared than anything. Between all that sitting, the bus ride both ways, I didn't exercise yesterday. But today I thought I had to get back into the habit, as the couch was getting too comfy. I got in 2 workouts totally 1 hour.

    Oh and I got to talk to my sister last night. It has almost been a month, I was tired after getting home from work and by the time I finally had energy to get moving it was late so I wouldn't phone because I didn't want to risk waking her. She is doing very well, her 4th chemo is on Monday. She has to do 6 treatments. So getting close to the end, no more infections since before Christmas, she has finally started to heal from her surgeries too, she should be getting her vacuum dressings off this week.

    My son seems to be adjusting to taking his meds. I don't have to remind him to take them, he just does, has had no stomach upsets from the low dose, he started the mid-dose this week so we will see if it helps him concentrate.

    tasb so glad both your son and sister seem to be doing well. Hope some of the stress will soon be off of you.

    Gosh Laury, didn't know Tom was quitting but sure can understand, they'll miss you two when he gives that up as you always seem to fix issues rather you are on or not.

    Glad to hear the stories of others so I know I'm not the only one that has problems or goofs in the kitchen. Today is Valentines Day so making DH a special dinner so I need to be more careful icon_lol.gif

    Really sounds like everyone is doing well, I'm doing just OK, but while being "aware" and trying to watch both exercise and food can't say I'm doing what I should. Not gaining but not loosing as a result.

    tasb, good news that your daughter wasn't seriously hurt. You still got 2 exercise sessions in. That's wonderful!! How great that you got to speak to your sister and she is handling chemo! It's good that your son is coping with the medication.

    Today Tom went to a doctor's appointment. It's cold and rainy for Florida today. There was supposed to be a big barbecue today for Valentine's Day but my guess is it will be cancelled. Tom did me a huge favor yesterday and got me a free cell phone with free minutes each month. This should work great!! We will be giving up our landline when Tom is no longer helping housing!! .

    OK, I lost a couple of lbs but I have no idea where from. icon_confused.gif
    Nothing fits any better and 10 days isn't long enough for fat to have magically morphed in to muscle but hey, I'll take it. Truthfully I didn't expect to see much difference for 3 or 4 weeks but I'm feeling so darned virtuous I was hoping to have a little more ease in my jeans. *sigh*

    I also will not weigh myself more than once every 2 weeks from here on. I prefer my mental image of the fat melting off to the reality of the scales. icon_lol.gif

    I'm enjoying reading the goings-on of the group. Glad to see so many of you planning and sticking to it, and getting that exercise and quiet time in.

    Interesting tidbit I read today. If someone drinks two soda pops a day in a year's time they will have consumed 109,500 calories. That's equivalent to 7300 tsp of sugars!

    Let's see, 3500 calories per pound, so just by cutting out pop you could lose 31.28 pounds per year!

    Bonnie, don't be too hard on yourself, it will all come around soon. The planning to be health is such a chore. Every time I am sitting on the couch I realize it is too easy just to sit there.

    Laury, sounds like you and Tom have really talked this through. It is probably a good idea to get rid of your home phone as people will still be trying to call you guys when they can't get a hold of who should be working.

    K9, good for you losing a couple pounds. Keep up the good work. You will eventually see the loss. Unlike you I do have to weigh myself daily, I really start gaining when I don't do it. Even if I put it off for a week I tend to gain.

    Granny Moses, thanks for the fact on the pop. A couple years ago I hung up bags of sugar and soup spoons in the kitchen, each bag and set of spoons represented the amount of sugar in a pop, gatorade, etc. The kids really found it interesting. Pictures of sugar cubes didn't do the trick, or seeing the amount of salt that is in a pop in a salt shaker didn't help them either. But seeing a sandwich baggie of sugar with 9 soup spoons attached really got them thinking.

    Me, well I got in another hour workout, and some PT exercises. I have gotten a little stronger since I did them on Sunday, a few more reps. Today was an extremely busy day for me. I made today our Treat Day, I made pancakes, Rice Krispie Treat Hearts (I just shaped each portion into the best free-form heart I could), and Pizza Bagels. The worst part of it was I was awake at 5 am, I couldn't get back to sleep because a neighbor's dog just kept barking, so I got up and folded laundry and listened to music until my alarm went off. Thankfully hubby put dinner into the oven before I got home. I got caught up at work, I was running a bit late, then I talked to the boss saying I don't want anyone using the school's kitchen anymore because I have been finding dirty counter tops, etc. And I think a mouse has been in there. I moved a few things around so hopefully I catch it tonight.

    Just popping in to say hello! Been super busy here, as usual. icon_rolleyes.gif I'm hanging in there but the scale's not moving. Oh well, it has to do something eventually right? Have a great Friday!
