    Just a suggestion for those stuggling with water. When I find I am not drinking enough I make unsweetend herbal iced tea. I brew 1 tea bag for each liter of water. Gives my water some flavor, no calories. I have been doing this daily for the past month or so. Right now I have been drinking peppermint or Celestial Season's Sugar Plum Spice, to match the winter season. The rest of the year is usually fruity or decaf green tea. I get more than enough caffiene from the amount of coffee I drink. icon_wink.gif

    My doctor told me that drinking Crystal Light is counting as drinking water. I drink lots of water in the morning but in the afternoon I do switch to Crystal Light lemonade.

    I weighed this morning (I use the freight scale at work icon_lol.gif ) and I gained over the holidays. Of course I knew that before I stepped on the scale, I could feel it. I'm actually up 14 lb from my lowest point last year. But on a brighter note I'm back on track with my healthy eating today and I'm getting ready to leave for Zumba in a few minutes. I'm trying to get sick, been cold all day and my throat hurts, but I'm going anyway darn it!

    I have Crystal Light every once in a while, we have it in the cupboard because hubby drinks it, but the artificial sweetener quit agreeing with me.

    I just popped in to say I can sleep tonight. icon_lol.gif I did my workout for the day already. I found myself checking Facebook for like the 4th time or tempted to turn on a stupid tv show and wanting to drown myself in chocolates, so I got ready to go on the elliptical. First I had to take a run to the store because one of the kids needed some Halls because she is sick. But I came back and got on my elliptical. I am loving my elliptical, saves me from getting hurt. My right knee tried to give out a couple times. If I had a treadmill I would have been in the wall behind me, or if I went out walking I would have fell. I just quickly shifted my weight to my other leg and kept my pace. Oh and I stepped on the scale, normally I weigh myself in the mornings. But I got curious, it was about 3:30 and I was down to 166.0 lbs. Must have been bloated yesterday.

    Hi, while browsing around Food.com, I looked at the January calendar and saw this thread. Decided I would stop in, as it goes along with my #1 goal for the year. My name is Roxie and I live in Michigan. Last year I joined Weight Watchers the week prior to Jan. 1st, by April I had reached my goal and then went on to lose more. I started out at 162 lbs, I now usually weigh around 135 lbs and I am happy with that. I suffer from IBS, so dieting is tricky, plus I am lactose intolerant. Over the holidays I had a flare up of my IBS and lost 3.5 lbs in a week. The flare up is settling down and I have gained back 1.5 lbs. Maintaining is my goal right now. I can not go below 133 or Weight Watchers will boot me out-lol! The weight loss has helped me feel better, plus the opportunity to cut out one BP medication. I now only take two meds.

    My goal this year is to maintain my weight and to eat more veggies, and to add weight training to my exercise, I currently walk/ run about 3 miles five x week. I do not eat red meat and no dairy, I am trying to cook more naturally to avoid processed food - time is a problem - just not enough of it. Also, want to keep my stress in check.

    Not much went on at my house today. I did spend some time looking for recipes for one person, but was not that lucky, I got mostly recipes for one dish meals. I like to eat things fresh, although I do freeze a lot I also throw out a lot, would love to be pointed in a direction to find recipes for one person.

    Welcome to all the new folks, my mind is not long enough to recall all your names. Tasb and Bonnie so glad to see you all join us here.

    A very warm welcome morgaingieser - so glad to see you here. I LOVE WW meetings, but have never had much luck with the on-line program. Think I need the support of others fighting the same thing. Trouble is we now live in a very small community and no meetings available without driving 2 hours each way so that pretty much rules it out in my book. It did always work well for me. So much so that I have tried on-line about 4X but it's just not the same for me.

    Sounds like you are doing awesome; as soon as I can I've commited to increasing my walking too and at first will aim for 3X/week for at least 30 minutes each. I really don't like excercise, but do know it's critical in my health.

    Jac - Have you searched on here for one person meals. I've usually looked for meals for two and found several that we've really enjoyed. Hmmm; wouldn't that be a great thread - MEALA for ONE or TWO!!

    tasb - sounds like you did great, keep it up, maybe I should weight again too but I'm trying to keep it down to 3X/week and always at the same time of day.

    Laury - Crystal Light is a good way to go if you can handle the sweetner, don't know why but I just can't but I do put slices of fresh lemon or lime in my water and that helps a lot.

    Alisa, sounds like you are off to a great start. You go girl!

    Tasb, what a full plate you have but you are doing the right thing taking care of yourself as you can not care for others if you do not.

    Oh tasb as I do struggle with water find your tip about the 1 tea bag to a liter of water a good one. Also agree with you about the coffee and caffeine as I too get down about 3 cups before the day starts.


    Bonnie, so agree that we have an outstanding group started here.

    Laury, just an fyi on the Crystal Light is if you acid reflux Crystal Light can irritate it.


    As for me I can see it is going to be hard to keep up with you all, but am going to try.

    Yesterday I did get in about a 10 minute walk on my coffee break, but was over tired after a 10 hour day and in so much pain with my back that I skipped dinner and just went to bed.

    Oh Deb, so sorry about the back pain - I sure understand. Mine was so severe I ended up having surgery last year, and it was a long time getting over it. But I can say while I still have to be careful for awhile longer with carrying things and how I turn the pain is gone and I feel so much better. Now my only real problem (read that excuse) is somehow I hurt the ball of my foot (feels like a bruise) and it refuses to heal. So if I walk more than a few minutes I start limping.

    But be careful Debb, skipping dinner very often is sure not good for you, even if you only have a snack try to get something down. Hope you are feeling much better today.

    Alisa Lea and Bonnie G, don't worry that you gained weight over the holidays. You can and will take it off. Alisa Lea, I hope that your body protects you and you don't get sick.

    wave.gif morgainegeiser!! I hope we can help you maintain your weight. That must feel great only taking two medicines a day. I take about 12 and 37 pills a day.

    Deb, you are fortunate that you can handle going to sleep without eating anything. With my body needing so much medicine, I am not really allowed to miss a meal.

    Today is not one of my easiest days. We are having a very rainy day. The humidity gets into my muscles, and joints to make them stiffer. We finally have a maintenance person here fixing our bathroom sink. We started telling them of problems around December 15. Once he leaves my Kindle and I get into bed and get some needed rest.

    Alisa Lea, I like your scale. Saves money buying one and you know it has to be calibrated, and you probably walk by it many times so there is no excuse to wait.

    Roxie, welcome to the group. I have never tried any weightloss programs. I did a few years back buy a WW cookbook but never got into making any recipes from there. I do look through it lots, I may have tried a few recipes, but nothing that really stuck. Less meds is a good thing, plus wouldn't WW consider you a success story.

    Debbwl, give the herbal tea a go, I keep it in my water bottle and carry it with me, I find it really helps me when I hate water. I normally do a good job at drinking water, but with stress I don't drink much other than coffee, which for me is a calorie bomb. I just can't get rid of my sugar. I am trying to keep myself at 2 large cups a day, but find myself getting a third cup. Should get some de-caf. I use coffee as my De-stresser because I don't smoke and not that into exercising to use that to de-stress. Like others have said, don't skip meals too often. It is hard when you lose a pet, we lost our baby cat a couple months ago, hubby put her out one night, like he has since she was a couple months old, we never seen her again. I live in the country and coyotes and a cougar have been spotted around here. She is the hardest death of any animal for us because I delivered her in our living room on May 2nd and we lost her mother when she was 5 weeks old, was hit by a car the night we gave away her brother.

    Laury, I hope the maintenance guy wasn't too long at your place. Get the rest you need. Good thing Tom is doing the writing for you. I bet with that many pages he just wishes that he could cut the printed paper and paste. LOL

    Jac, I have the bad habit of weighing myself daily, if I don't then my weight gets away on me. When I stopped 2 weeks ago it was actually hard not pulling out the scale before hopping in the shower. That is how much of a habit it became.

    Bonnie, bread can be so addictive. I only make plain white right now, but I have to go town Monday so I think I am going to head to the Health Food Store to pick up ingredients for Multigrain bread again. My middle DD said she misses eating it.

    lauralie41, hope you find some exercises that work for you.

    Me, well I got on my elliptical this afternoon for 30 minutes, so 3/3. Like yesterday I found myself cruising FB again, of course nothing there to read so I decided I had better exercise. I have to look through my songs on my phone. I thought I was deleting duplicate songs from my workout playlist but I was actually deleting them for the phone. I think I deleted 2 songs. No more playing around on the phone while on the elliptical. I do feel less stressed. If I hadn't been exercising I would have made an extra stop on my way home today. I went into work, I had to fax off my food order today, and I wanted to check on the kitchen because the Youth Group was using it over the holidays. I found dirty dishes in the dishwasher, garbage in the can, dirty coffee cups in my sink and the staff room. I cleaned out the staff room frig, not pretty. I had to carry my coffee cup around with me because there was fruit flies. I think they followed me from the staffroom. Oh and an oven left on. I was wondering why I was sweating just after I got there. I was wearing my heavy winter jacket, but usually the school is kept just above freezing weekends and holidays. I will wait until I get back to work on Tuesday to bring this up.

    Glad to see everyone posting and enjoy reading each of them, yes, tasb, I need to start that two tab window for reading and keeping up, too.

    Not much new here except I did my pre-op today and learned more about my surgery. I cannot wait to get this over with. They told me even if I just had the most minor problem I'd be in a sling from Friday until Tuesday and couldn't bath during that time. I'll be crazy, but if it is bad I'll be in it for six to eight weeks with 2-3 months of PT. Heaven forbid, I am preparing for the worse but praying it is not all that bad.

    Now, I am going to say something that is embarrassing but gotta figure it out. I have been practicing eating with my left hand, typing with just my left hand and driving with my left hand only, then a friend of mine says, oh those are the easy things, wait until you have to wipe with your left hand. So you all know me I tried and I can't do it. What am I going to do? That has worried me to death. They also told me I'd be sleeping in a recliner for several weeks, too, because you can't push yourself out of bed. I can't do it either because I have tried getting out of bed without using my right arm and I can't. I might buy me a new recliner because I don't think I can stand sleeping in mine for a week or more.

    Bonnie, so sorry your foot hurts and hope it starts healing.

    Laury, 37 pills wow any change you will be able to get off any through life style changes? I used to on be on 5 and the doctor want to put me on three more. I asked if there was something I could do to either not take it or get off some of the other pills I was on, she recommend a low fat diet and becoming a vegetarian 4 to 5 days out of the week. It took some tail and error, a fair amount of time and a lot of blood test but I am down to one pill a day that has to be taken first thing in the morning and on an empty stomach.

    Oh tasb how hard to lose your sweet baby that way.
    Ewww you had to clean the Youth Group kitchen and frig sounds ugly.
    I am thrilled you got a full 30 minutes in on the elliptical even if it did cost you two songs icon_lol.gif you are doing great!

    Jacqueline, wishing the best with your surgery! As for the left hand thing just keep trying the more you try the easier it will get I promise. Hang in there!!!

    I work as a school cook, I had to clean my kitchen, aka the kitchen at the school, I found a few dirty things in the dishwasher, including one of my favorite knives sitting in the water at the bottom of the dishwasher, slimy as you know what. And some dirty cups in the sink and staff room, which were attracting fruit flies. The frig was the staff room frig. I don't want to talk about the moldy/outdated things I found in there. I was so grossed out at the fruit flies that I had to start carrying my coffee cup with me. I also had to put out 2 bags of garbage, one from the kitchen and one from the staff room.

    I guess I didn't have to, but I wasn't going to come in to mice, which frequent the building, and be swatting at fruit flies for the next week. I wrote a note on the board asking everyone to use paper cups during holidays. But I know from one cup that was used someone is ignoring my sign saying the top shelf is staff cups, not to use unless it is yours. I found a cup that was tucked way in the back, belongs to a former co-worker used.

    tasb - nothing is worse than having to clean a mess like that after ADULTS that should know better. But like you, I would not have been able to walk away from it either. Hope you do let them all know what you found when everyone is back, they should be ashamed of themselves. If you know who did what (names on containers??) I'd even use their names in the hopes of embarassing them into better actions.

    Jac - take care Sweetie but just remember, no matter how bad it is the first couple of weeks, it's going to end up so much better than it has been these past months.

    I lost a 1/2# today, not a lot but at least it's moving in the right direction. Have some housework to get done today so that should count as some of my excercise and then with the weekend coming DH and I'll be doing a LOT of walking. It's easier to walk here than trying to drive in this traffic.
