Can anyone out there tell when to use white pepper? I would also like to find a list somewhere telling me what a spice is, what food it goes with, and what it tastes like.

    Thanks!

These types of questions should be posted in Cooking Q&A - it's one of the choices in the dropdown just above. This forum is for techinical problems using the site.

I use white pepper when the flecks of black pepper would not be appealing, as in a white sauce. My recipe for hot and sour soup also calls for it. I use it at other times, too, it's just a little different.

The Kitchen Dictionary has advice on man ingredients, white pepper is included in this description http://www.food.com/library/pepper-337

See this thread on spice/herb advice in the Gardening forum, http://www.food.com/bb/viewtopic.zsp?t=272631
