I'm playing in the game 2013 Variety is the Spice of Life and made Carrie's Rich Rolls or Bread (Basic Recipe) With Variations and made 3 variations of one recipe was fun and while the same recipe discovered that the different techniques makes them all seem slightly different:

    Basic loaf

    Layered:

    and finally clover leaf

They all look lovely. That is the same catagory I plan to make this coming week. I will probably only make one variation however since I am also playing the Pirate Game and still need to wrap my brain around creating a new recipe for it. I think since I was committed so strongly to make so many recipes in the recent PAC game, that I will most likely just commit to the minimum recipes for both of these games.

I have a question. Are the baked items we report here only supposed to be breads, and the like? Do you want to hear about other things baked?

Hee, Hee; that was Carrol wanting to know about the baking adventures but I'm sure she got the message.

Thanks Red, I was pretty proud of them too.

Carrol I just ordered that bread keeper you showed, can't wait for it to show up so I can see how it works - do you still "wrap" the bread or just put it in it with no wrapping???

Yes I appreciate the answer however it arrives. I put the bread in the keeper 'naked' without anything around it. You really don't need anything since you can adjust the amount of air you want allowed in. That is really helpful if you want crusty breads, too.

Oops, sorry about the mixup - I'm a bit frazzled, but got Mr Grumpy home from the hospital yesterday. He's much much better, but still needs the immobilizer for his knee, so is quite clumsy,

    duonyte,
Did you miss some work or take some time off? Having Mr. Grumpy in the hospital has to tie you up quite a bit.

I took a bit of time off, will take some half-days now that he's home. I don't think I need to be home fulltime, this time around. Now all I need to do is schedule follow-up doctor's appts.

It's really not a problem. Sorry about your DH. I used to say when my kids were small that I would rather have had both of them home sick at the same time than to have DH sick.

Made these Saturday....all day Saturday. Sheeshe! What a workout. I used Reinhart's croissant recipe from Artisan Breads Every Day but will make some changes next time. The dough was wet, especially compared with other recipes (71% hydrated compared with 57% in other recipes). They weren't as flaky as others I've had. But, for a first try.....

I would never have guessed that they weren't real flaky. They are positively the most gorgeous crescent rolls I've ever seen. Boy do they make me hungry!!
