Made this recipe two days ago and it turned out to look just like the picture but two days later they are as hard as rocks. What did I do worng?

Thank you for article about original chocolate chip cookiesl I stored them in a plastic container (obviously not air tight) but now know from this article they are better eaten right away and the batter made earlier and refrigerated until baked. Thank you for taking time to answer.
