out of interest.. here is this mornings breakfast taken using the same lighting set up as above, but this time using my mobile phone ! You will noticed you don't get the blurring effect to the distance...



but you do get what looks like a very good photo to me... seems good and well positioned lighting is what makes a photo....

if I could just do the same with the flash... I noticed the pro photographer at our Daughters wedding had a big flash on his camera but often had it pointing up and backwards rather than at the subjects... (mind you, still not seen the resulting photos yet)

The photographer was using the reflected light technique where the flash bounces off the white ceiling to create a soft lighting.

All of the pics you see me post are taken with my iPhone 4S. it has an 8 megapixel camera, and takes videos as well, with equal quality.

Interesting the eggs, ham, beans and toast look better in natural light, but the tomato, mushrooms and sausage look better under the lighting. Your cell phone still takes great shots as well, if you and Joe had not confessed to using cell phones from time to time I would not know.

mine is a "Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S" also with an 8megapixal camera and full HD video. It was a brilliant camera, but since the update of the android system on it, you can no longer manually set "MACRO" which can be a pain in the bum because the auto setting often can't decide what you are taking a picture of when up close... !

mushrooms, a little bacon and a scattering of chorizo.... on toasted teacakes (thats a barm/bread roll/bun type thing.. a bit like an American biscuit ish.. )

I like it when you guys drop in technical tips. Wish my kitchen ceiling was white, but it's knotty pine! (Or, as some old lady called it, "naughty pine").

Steve, if I had to eat your gorgeous breakfast it will last me for 24 hours!!!

Great photos. It's hard to believe what some cellphones can do these days. DH and I resist the efforts of our cellphone server to give us smart phones -- I think we're getting old. We just want to send SMS's (text), make and receive calls ...!

But I am mightily impressed with the photos above!

tonight we had one chicken but two different wants... so I made a roast dinner
(this pic was a one shot deal with my fujifil hs30exr camera under kitchen lighting.. she won't have cold food.. lol)


and made myself a curry with the rest
(this time I was able to set up with my lights, still using same camera)

Both look yummy, but like how you gave a touch of flair to the second one (Curry) without a lot of extra work.

That is not to say make it dinners is not a lot of work because it is and my hat is off to you.

I could only put the roast on the plate and take a picture.. not even a second pic to adjust angles etc..

Mine I don't mind playing about with several shots...

todays food around taking car to get serviced, picking other half up from work, taking her to dentist, picking up again, going to pick car up from service etc...

so lunch time.. (didn't have breakfast) a tin of pea and ham sauce with a beef,mustard and rocket sandwich


then tea time.. frozen burgers on frozen finger rolls with frozen chips and the leftover rocket !


and then did a bit of Christmas dipping...

Your Christmas candy reminds me of a dear departed friend whose husband would stop once a month a buy her a few chocolate candy treats that looked just like the ones in your photo.
