Haunted Restaurants/Inns?

I had an “experience” this weekend in a very old restaurant… which I was kind of surprised, when I asked some people at the restaurant if they had any other diners or employees say anything about strange happenings, they just shook their heads.

Dock’s Oyster House has been open and run by the same family since 1897
It is one of our all time favorite restaurants in the country for the food, the service and the whole atmosphere

We didn’t make reservations in advance this weekend, so Saturday early afternoon when we called to see if we could get squeezed in, they had a table for us in the first seating at 5:00… no worries, kind of early for us but at least we knew we wouldn’t miss out on softshell crabs

We got there at 5 and our table wasn’t quite ready yet. I ran upstairs to ‘powder my nose’ before dinner, while hubby ordered us a glass of wine

While I was in the bathroom, I could swear I heard heels tapping on the floor as if someone were in the room with me. While I’m um, sitting there, I then heard a woman’s voice… it was kind of a whimper/crying sound.
I said “is everything okay?” because at this point, I thought there was someone in the other stall.
No answer…

I finished my business and walked out of the stall and did a little peek under the door… nobody there.
I washed up and walked out to the stairs, nobody there

…hmmm very, very strange. The hair stood up on my arms, I had goose bumps!
I said nothing!

After dinner, we went to the bar to have an after dinner drink
I had to go “Powder my nose” again
I went upstairs and two women were going up the same time as I was
While in the stall, I heard the whimpering sound again.. the woman outside said “are you okay?” and the woman next to me said “that wasn’t me, Jo”
I sat for a second and said “wasn’t me”
Finished up and came out and said to these ladies “I’m so glad I’m not the only one that heard that!”
The three of us went thru what the noise could possibly be…. Noisy pipes? We hadn’t flushed yet,
Wind? Not a windy night at all
Something mechanical? Nope, just sounded human, like someone crying

So, at least I know I’m not crazy, two other women heard it too… I’m going to be a little nervous to go to the bathroom there anymore though!


A few years back, we took my Mom and Aunt to Niagara on the Lake for Mother’s day weekend

I got to hear about how haunted the Angel Inn was, but we never felt or saw anything other-worldly there

Would love to hear any of your ‘ghost stories’ if you got them!

Where is this restaurant? What city? Savannah Georgia (USA) is one of the most haunted cities in the US. We have visited several times and have been on a ghost tour. VERY interesting. You may not believe in ghosts---I definitely (SP) believe that ghosts are possible.

The K&F just celebrated their 100 year anniversary
We’re friendly with some of the employees there as well and THEY have told stories of some spooky stuff going on in their restaurant


Here is their website, what they don’t tell you is that even while it was a ‘posh’ restaurant for the bootlegger crowd of the 20’s, they were still running a brothel upstairs.

don’t know if it’s part of the ‘lore’ from the employees or not, but there was some violent stuff going on in this place back in the day

Yes.

We have a lovely little bungalow in the Historic District in Phoenix that has housed a couple of different restaurants. It used to be a lovely place for Tea, or a nice lunch, called The Teeter House.

I attended a Bridal Shower there for a good friend. The first weird thing was that presents kept dropping off the table. The table wasn't unsteady, the presents weren't stacked unevenly.......but the same presents kept toppling off the table. I joked about the place being haunted, and put the presents back.

I was seated next to the bride-to-be. We were chatting......and her plate slid across the table about 12 inches. We looked at each other with our jaws dropped. Both of us were shocked and glad that the other had seen it, so we knew that we weren't crazy.

Finally, we posed for a group picture in front of the beautiful ornately carved Victorian Bar. As we were taking the picture, an unoccupied rocking chair across the room started rocking back and forth like crazy.

At that point, the bride's mom was thoroughly freaked out, and decided it was time to wrap things up, lol
