    Do you brown the ground beef first, I know dumb question.

    The ingredients list states the beef is cooked and drained - so you brown it and drain away the fat. This will make for a nicer soup than otherwise, and the browning adds flavor. I would drain the fat and then deglaze the pan with some broth - the little browned bits are caramelized juices and pure flavor.
