    keftedakia (meatballs - delicious served with...)
    greek salad
    greek lemon chicken and potatoes
    fresh fruit salad with a dollop of greek yoghurt, greek thyme honey and a sprig of mint

    Molly, an appetizer I really like and I don't remember where I got it, is to take feta cheese and slice it into thin slices - you take the block and slice down the wide part, but pretty thin - maybe 1/4 to 1/2 in slice.

    Layer them - about three slices - in an ovenproof dish, cover with chopped sweet bell pepper and red onion (the original said sliced green bell pepper and onion, but I like my version better). Drizzle with olive oil, add some whole garlic cloves and sprinkle with oregano.

    Place in a hot oven - like 450 deg and let it sit there until it gets a bit melty - this may take a while. Feta does not melt easily.

    Serve with pita bread or good crusty white loaf.

    I can make a meal of this, with a glass - or three - of red wine.

    That sounds like a version of saganaki. You should write it up as a regular recipe!

    hummus with pita bread and veges
    roast lamb with lemon potatoes
    cold salad of cooked eggplant and peppers mixed with yogurt

    These are some really great suggestions to showcase greek foods.

    Probably the nicest party meals I can remember from my Greek relatives were barbeques.

    We would have either lamb on the spit or barbeque lamb skewers, accompanied with: keftethakia and tzatziki or other dips, greek salad, potato salad, roast lemon potatoes or french fries, feta cheese and other greek cheeses like kefalotiri and fresh bread.

    Sometimes there would be other things like little spinach pies, pilafi (chicken and rice pilaf) or fried rice with vegetables (an asian addition which everyone liked). There would always be a lot of people to feed, and often each family would bring a salad, dessert or side dish to share with everyone.

    All of this would be followed by dessert. There would be galaktobouriko or a chilled syrup cake but they would always also include a lighter non-greek dessert like cheese cakes and pavlova, which matched really well with the barbeque.

    The good thing was that they wouldn't waste any of the food, they would always share the leftovers amongst everyone, and everyone would take a few plates of food home to eat for a few days.
