Have we heard from her lately? Has she gotten power back?

The weather here is rainy and chilly. It's about 48 right now and I was chilled going out to lunch. I can't imagine what those poor people up in NJ and NY are going through. My heart goes out to them.

Thanks Potsie. How's the doggies? Is the kitty still visiting? Maybelle has taken to sneaking up on my bed after I go to sleep at night. She is not a lap dog. lol

Hi jneen! Thanks so much for asking and being concerned. I thought I posted here..... guess not..sorry! We got our power back on Sunday afternoon. It took until last night for the heat to really come up since it had a LONG way to go, it was about 54 in the apt Sunday morning. We are hoping that the new storm will not knock our power out again since it will be MUCH colder..the forecast is for SNOW We did lose most of our perishable food. We were able to eat some but lost a lot.

However, we were really just inconvenienced when you think of all the people who have damaged or destroyed homes and the people who lost their lives. I kept reminding myself of that and I am thinking about it now. There are people in our community that still have not had their power restored. What is worrisome is that the storm due in tomorrow is expected to blow down trees and branches that were weakened by the Hurricane and the utility company has announced that some repairs are temporary and could fail in the wind and rain or snow.

Anyway, we had a good day today. Our phone service seems to be working (it was out off and on yesterday); I cooked up some food to have on hand (I have a gas stove); I did a load of laundry and washed all of our warm sweatshirts, etc; I was able to refill my car with only a very short wait in a very short line and...I was able to easily and quickly vote this morning.

I have NOT put away any of my emergency supplies.... they're all still handy.

Thanks to everyone who sent good thoughts and prayers our way and to all of us here who were in Sandy's path... if you would just keep that up for a couple more days until this next storm gets done with us I would be really appreciative!

My doggies are fine.

The kitty I called 'Tuna' still makes a cameo guest appearance every other day or so and I feed him some Chicken of the Sea.

I love having a part-time cat that lives somewhere else but just stops by for an occasional visit.

I don't have to deal with a stinky litter box! I love my life!

You have the best of both worlds with Tuna. No cat box to clean and you probably see him as much as the people who do have to clean the cat box.

Thanks for the update Sara. Glad you are doing ok. All of you have been in my thoughts and prayers. I grew up in Boston so I'm well familiar with the Nor'easters. Hopefully it won't be too bad.

This unfortunate situation should be a lesson for all of us to be prepared. I know I'm going to start my emergency box. I seriously don't know what would happen if we faced something like this. Dh is in a power wheelchair and depends on his lift to get him in and out of bed. We do have a generator but we live so far out in the country that getting gas for it would be a challenge.

Hi All.... well...the Nor'Easter is here and it's been snowing.... here is what it looked like a couple of hours ago:

Not really clear but you get the idea.... we are praying really hard that the utility line "fixes", some of which we were told were temporary, will hold against the wind and heavy wet snow and that no more trees or big branches come down.....

jneen... do your local authorities, like the Fire Dept, EMS or Police Dept know that your hubby is dependent on his lift and needs his power wheelchair? Most emergency services maintain a list of people who need power in this way so they can get help to them as soon as possible and know what their specific needs are in a disaster situation. Your County has an Emergency Management System and your Police, Fire or EMS will know how to get your info entered. Hopefully this is redundant info and you are already registered with them and further, that you never need it!

Walking the dogs today it 'felt' like snow weather. I am so not ready for it and think it just sucks that you need to deal with that as well as the remaining issues from Sandy.
