Can anyone suggest side dishes to balance the sweetness of chicken Marsala and rice?

I am probably late, so sorry.

I do like salad, but I go very easy. I mix of arugula, romaine, some sliced red onion; and a light lemon vinaigrette; maybe some black olives. Simple with the rich marsala.

I also like roasted grape tomatoes; or roasted cauliflower. Green beans is also another good side.

The marsala is the star, so I would go easy on the side.

I wouldn't do salad and veggie, but you could do a nice crusty bread if you wanted. Depends on if you have dessert or appies.

I really like the idea of an arugula salad, and I've never tried roasted grape tomatoes. Still have a handful ripening from my last tomato harvest. The roasted cauliflower is appealing, too - balancing the sweet, but not too assertive a flavor on its own. Though you counsel against using both sald and veg, I think I cannot resist trying both.

    Thank you, SarasotaCook!

You can always do both; I just usually do one or another; but it depends on who is eating and what else you are serving. An appy, dessert, wine, cocktails, etc.

And you know your guests too. If I had my poker buddies; I would need, veggie, starch, rolls, salad, etc. They eat me out of house and home, LOL. So, make what you are comfortable with; that is first and foremost.
