    Simple Chopped Salad

    Fri Oct 26, 2012 4:41 am Groupie
Nothing special, but it sure tasted good ...

A mix of iceberg and romaine, tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, egg, bacon, my leftover smoked chicken, scallions, and a few croutons crunched up.
Link Removed by Moderator, homemade ranch is just so much better than bottled!

The pic is a little fuzzy, sorry about that.

Apologies - forgot the link. Thx for removing. I try to catch that ... I guess, I didn't quite have enough coffee this morning icon_smile.gif.

I served the salad with a homemade ranch dressing, which was very good.

I like your salad, even if the focus is not as pin-sharp as your photos usually are. We are real salad chompers, so that really appeals to me.

I checked the ingredient list on my bottle of ranch dressing, and oh dear -- just too many artificials and things for my liking. So I looked for a ranch dressing on this site and found lots, so printed and made one. Even before standing to let flavours develop it tasted great.

Using it later on tonight's salad.

By the way, I checked out the profile page of the cook, and it seems she was last on this site around June 2010!! I find this quite often -- what a pity we can't find out what happened to the cooks who one day go away and simply never come back.

I'm a salad fan too. Nothing better in my book. I often try to eat just a salad or a salad with added beans, chick peas, or added just a little protein one night a week.

I also like to toss a little pasta in with fresh greens and a warm protein for something a bit different.

Yes, the ranch, I keep one bottle on hand just for any friends or my son that stops by and they like it. Also, sometimes, I like just a little with some carrots or celery for a dip. But does have some pretty scary ingredients on the bottle.

I just happen to have sour cream and buttermilk, so why not make it. It was really good and after it sits a bit ... even better. I admit to having bottled dressings, a few; but when I can, fresh is so much better.

Even though it's a bit on the fuzzy side, you
can tell it was a very good salad. icon_smile.gif
