UPSIDE DOWN APPLE CAKE COOLING WHOO HOO!

I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO want to try this cake for DH but based on the reviews, even thought kitchen tested, there seems to be some descrepancies

OK, will do 2 pounds of granny smith apples

but how do the apples not get mushing in the cooking process...any hints and tips to a cook, non baker

I think the reviewer with the problem with her apples turning into applesauce used eating, not cooking apples, Mickey.

You should be fine using Grannies to make this cake. They'll remain relatively firm after cooking. It looks wonderful.

I think one of the keys to success is to tip it onto a serving plate when you pull it out of the oven (while its very hot, I mean). Otherwise, the apple slices might stick in the pan to cooling caramel.

Having a friend over for dinner and apple anything is DH's fave!!!

I don't normally TOOT my own horn, but the cake was GREAT!! Served with vanilla ice cream and yes, even with our friend for dinner, I licked the plate lol

I was sooooooooooooooooo hoping that DH would be distracted while our friend was telling a story...well bugga me, I got caught at the last second lol lol no photo, so is just my word lol

yes, is dried rose petals and if you must know I needed something around the cake as when I transferred it from the al foil to the pizza stone, some caramel got on the plate, so the rose petals hid the flaw and was great
