she just busted into the garbage lickety split & grabbed a drumstick. i tried to get it from her/get her to drop it but it seems she swallowed it whole. any chance this isn't the end?

Cooked chicken bones can cause problems Beth. Keep an eye out when she next poops. If there is blood in the stools its possible that an intestine was torn or punctured. Although it is less than fascinating keep an eye to make she she is going normally for a few days. She should pass some bone so the stools may be chalky - that is ok btw.

Also watch for any sign of discomfort.

She will likely be fine but if you are in doubt get to vet.

It's so scarey when they get something they shouldn't. No matter how good they are when you tell them to "leave it", when it comes to food, all bets are off. Hope your furbaby will be okay.

Well the little beast looked at me funny when I went outside w/her this morning. She ate her breakfast normally. She's behaving normally. When she was hesitant to get back into her bed, I looked & found a little bit of firm puke. so far, that's all. I'm feeling very lucky & Lucy's new nickname is Lucifer.

Beth, when I first got Madison she was 7 months old. I was her 6th home.
She had her stomach pumped 3 times in 6 weeks. They don't actually 'pump it' they stick a teeny narcotic pill in her eye which gets absorbed and makes her dizzy and nauseous. It works better than the old pouring peroxide down their throats because that only makes them vomit once whereas the narcotic keeps them throwing up until they are empty of whatever it was they ingested.
(Keep this in mind for future accidents - peroxide is a good emergency treatment)

Anyway... one day I walked in to the living room and she was chewing a 10" long piece of thick nylon rope. I yelled 'LEAVE IT" and she promptly swallowed it whole. THAT could have made a horrible mess of her intestines - no way would it pass without complications or surgery so off to the vet we went. Did the narcotic in the eye thing and every little while he would say "Is this it?" "Nope - there is more" and so we continued until we got all 10" of it back.
